▷Former Hufflepuff▷Muggleborn▷Married to Aedan Lowery▷Sticky Wicket Owner and Chef
→Ciaran took as much strength, possibly more than he should, from the final hug from Kenny before he finally left to go and stay with Siobhan and the other's. Not feeling in the mood to continue their holiday cooking he shoo'd Caty out of the kitchen telling her she was free to go play. When he was sure she was out of eye and ear shot he took a seat at the table, placed his face in his hands and began to sob. How could he let his family, his life, get to this point? He thought everything had been alright; he had been sure that if he at least showed that he was still willing to make everything work that everything else would slowly but surely fall in line. Well things certainly did fall, but it was more apart than anything. He didn't hear his husband come into the kitchen until name was said, three times in fact. When he looked up and heard Aedan call him love and ask what was wrong, he was simultaneously filled with heartache and rage. How dare he just come in and act like he has no idea what's been going on with his own family! Actually, with how he'd been acting the last few months, it was logical to believe he really didn't! "'Wha's wron?' You don' get ta come in 'ere an' ask that Aedan Lowery! Wha's wron' with you?!" Ciaran looked up at his husband, the love of his life, with anger burning in his hazel eyes. "You've been so wrapped up in yer work and yer own life tha' you've completely missed out on yer own kids' lives. Have you noticed tha' Rhys stopped speakin' again? Or tha' Caty has nightmares tha' we're gonna get a divorce or send them all back to the orphanage? Worse, have you noticed that your oldest son, that Kenny left again because of..because of you!." The candy maker was on his feet now and though he was a little less than a foot shorter than his husband he felt as though he was standing seven feet tall. "You are goin' ta fix this Aedan. Yer gonna apologize to yer kids an', an' yer gonna be apart of this family or...or else." He couldn't say the else. He couldn't physically say that he would leave him and take their kids with him. He just couldn't say it. But he would do it if he had to. For his family and for himself. With nothing else to say he walked out the kitchen still wiping at his tear stained face not able to stand being around him at the moment. ←

Rhys sat on a couch in the living room, his legs tucked under him as a book sat on his lap. He'd come out of his room, which was a big accomplishment for him, and was now trying to read a book. Reading and signing to himself, that was. It was a challenge, but one that he was determined to get. He had been practising sign language for the past year and a half, and he was sure he was getting more and more proficient with it. The problem was, he didn't really have anyone that could sign back, which meant he was stuck with learning on his own. It was frustrating, to be sure, and he refused to speak. No one could make him. If he went invisible, it would mean that nothing was going to hurt him, right? If he didn't talk, then no one would notice him. It was better, right? If he didn't say anything, then no one could get hurt. It hurt when Kenny left, but he'd learned a long time ago that people he cared about just disappeared. His mum and dad, his original mum and dad, they disappeared in a fire. He couldn't even put a face to them anymore, and now, Aedan had done the same. He'd disappeared, and he couldn't understand why. Kenny had kept closed-lipped on the whole thing, as much as he could, but Rhys could tell that his older brother was trying to keep what he wanted to say to himself. Now Kenny was gone, and that was it. Sure, he still had Ciaran and Caty, but how long before they disappeared?
Rhys felt tears blurring his vision, and he shoved the book away before he could get mad enough to do something to it. He couldn't remember who, but someone had told him once that all books should be treated with respect. However, all Rhys wanted to do was throw the book as far as he could away from him. He just wanted to vanish. Everything would hurt less, right? It wasn't like Aedan would notice him being gone. Siobhan had moved out, so she wasn't going to notice if he disappeared. He curled around his knees as he drew them up. All he wanted to do was cry, but he hadn't cried in years. He just couldn't. He bit his lip, before taking in deep breaths. He glanced over to where Caty was, knowing his sister was keeping an eye on him. She hardly left him alone anymore. He knew she was worried about him. What could he say? That he was okay? He wasn't, and that was the problem. He couldn't say it, because then someone would see him. Someone would notice. He put his head on his knees, trying to think. If he wanted to disappear, how could he really do it? Could he run away like Kenny had several summers ago? He didn't know, and even worse, he didn't even know where he would run to.

Rhys looked over when he heard someone say his name, then frowned in confusion. What was Aedan doing here? He never saw him outside of his workshop, and the white-haired boy studied him quietly. Aedan seemed to be holding something, and Rhys for all of his deductive reasoning couldn't figure out what it was. It seemed to be wrapped up, in any case. His hands hesitated, then unwrapped from his knees to try and hold them steady as he signed. Um, sure. I don't mind. It seemed weird, talking to Aedan. He hardly saw him, and even more, hardly spoke to him. Well, spoke to him before he went silent. He then suddenly realized that like Ciaran, who was trying his best, Aedan might not know sign language. He decided to nod instead in confirmation and put his hands back around his knees, chin resting atop them, as he waited patiently for whatever Aedan wanted to talk about.

Aedan smiled softly. "I know I haven't been around much, and I am sorry about that. I honestly did not know I was even doing it. I know I can't make it up to you, or Kenny, or Caty, and probably not even Ciaran." he sighed. "I'm just.. I hope you give me another chance. This package, its a tradition in the Lowery Family to pass this object down one generation at a time. Normally to one who is most likely to see its uses. You, Rhys are incredibly bright. My brother, Davin had it last, normally he would make the choice. I think you are the next person to get this though." he said setting it down. "I, myself never saw much point in this thing. Maybe you will. Only my brother knew." he said with a soft smile. "I know it doesn't really make up for the mess I've made but I suppose it is a way of telling you I do see you as my son, one with such amazing potential. One who doesn't deserve how I treated him, and hopefully in due time you can forgive me." he said as he stood. I hope he can. he thought sadly staring at the package of the leather bound journal. An Encyclopedia of Lowery History. Written by hand and updated through the years by the one it was pass, if anyone else had read it they would never find the true message in the words. One that Aedan had only been told it existed but never how to find it nor what it was. "Everything I could find of my brother's notes on it are there as well." he said as he turned. "I'm going to do my best ti make it up to you, to all of you." he said.

Rhys listened as Aedan spoke, a frown furrowing his brows. He'd never really heard anything much about Davin, other than he was Siobhan's husband, but beyond that, nothing. It was a painful subject apparently to a good many of the older family. He picked up the package carefully, examining it with his fingers as he turned it over and over. The idea that it was a mystery to everyone else in the family made the young boy open it carefully and look at the first pages. Handwriting unfamiliar to him stared back, and he could already tell it was old, really old. He laid it back down and looked back up to the adult. Suddenly he was off the couch, hugging Aedan around the middle while he tried to stop himself from crying. He hadn't done it in a very long time, and he didn't want to start now. He was getting older, right? Older people didn't cry. He buried his face in the other's shirt and bit his lip, just trying to stop the silent sobs wracking his form.
