I have a couple of questions, some of them I'm not sure what they mean, others are about me being a girl and if I'm considered normal in some ways...

1. What does it mean to lose your virginity?
2. What is a tampon?
3. What is protection supposed to be? My mom said this was like a tampon, because both made you lose your virginity. See question one.
4. Is it normal for me to have my period skip about half a month to a month and a half once every year? I couldn't be pregnant, I haven't had sex in my entire life...

I'm sorry if this was the wrong place to ask these questions, I'm just really worried that I don't know some things that other people find important. People call me a virgin, and I think it's supposed to be an insult, but I keep thinking of the greek/roman/whatevers virgins at temples and stuff...

Let me see if I can be of any help.

Losing your virginity means different things to different people. To me, it means becoming intimate with someone else. Others disagree. Some think its when a girls hymen breaks. I was born without one, so that never made since to me. And even with one, masturbation sometimes can break a girls hymen. Its best to sit and think on your own, and decide where you want to draw that line.

A tampon is a device used to collect menstrual blood. Its a bit like a sponge. You insert it into the v****a and replace it every 4-6 hours on a normal flow. Its not dirty, it does not hurt, and it does not make you lose your virginity. It can be a bit uncomfortable during insertion, and can take a few to get used to. Again, its something to try for yourself, and decide if you like it. or not.

Protection against pregnancy? If that's what you mean, it can mean a number of different things. Abstinence is the only true protection. That being said, a condom, the pill, IUD's, sponges... there are a TON of different pregnancy protection. And none (Except maybe a condom, which requires sex to actually be happening for it to be used) make you any less of a virgin. If you want any information specifically on them, I would be happy to help, if not, go ask your doctor, or school nurse. Depending on where you live, and how old you are, they cannot legally tell your parents.

Yes skipping a period is perfectly normal. If your more active, stressed, there is any number of things that can throw off your period. My periods never came less than 2 months apart.

I hope I helped somewhat...

1. To have sexual intercourse, where there is penetration and... most girl would bleed because the hymen will break and the ''hole'' gets larger because of the penetration so it hurts....

2. A tampon, is like a pad that you have to insert in your v****a, for some people it's like a penetration so some girls don't want to use that.

A tampon is handy when you are in your periods and you have to swim ...

3. Protection are condoms... So during sexual intercourse you won't lose your virginity.
4. Yeah it can skip when you just started to have your periods , it becomes more regular after 2 years ...

I don't know how old you are but I hope you have sex education soon at school...

well, many people have different views on losing virginity; some think it is strictly having a p***s inside a v****a, others a broken hymen, others the first sexual experience with another person. it just depends on your view on it.

tampon, is basically like an internal pad. it is used to prevent period blood from leaking out onto your panties, basically. pads go on your underwear, tampons go inside your v****a.

protection? like a condom? what? condoms go onto penises to prevent the sperm from enteringbyour body and it is 99% effective; they protect against STDs. another form of protection would be birth control, or there is this one thing that women use to predict when they are ovulating and do not have sex on those days-- some temperature thing, i forgot the name-- it is not very safe.

YES. IT IS NORMAL FOR YOUR PERIODS TO SKIP FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, with abstinence from sex of course. You see, periods are different between women; some have their periods regularly every month, others have it every other month. it depends on the woman's menstrual cycle-- in a perfect world, it takes 28 days to get your period again. Okay, so, there might be some internal influence on your periods being late: stress, hormones, new cycle, etc. it's normal. some women are influenced by other women's periods, there was a study that women who hand out with the same group of women almost daily synchronize periods. like, you guys are going yo have periods at the same, or close to it. well hot damn right?

are you still confused?

I don't know how old you are but I hope you have sex education soon at school...

When are people supposed to have sex education at school...?
I'm 16, also. I tried to ask the school nurse some of these questions and she said it wasn't appropriate for school. My mom, when I asked her later, said to ask the school nurse. That's when I came here.

I had my first sex ed class in 5th grade, and about every year after.
Maybe you should visit a planned parenthood in the area? They are always super helpful with questions and setting you up for anything you might need.

Maybe different countries have different time to teach sex education.

I hope we answered your questions.

Contraception, like condoms and the pill, are to protect against pregnancy and STDs, not losing your virginity. Once you've had sex, you aren't a virgin anymore.
A tampon could probably break the hymen, if you didn't use it properly, but using one doesn't automatically mean you're not a virgin anymore.
Being called a virgin is only an insult if you let it become one. It's your choice as to whether you want to lose it or not. Don't let anyone else tell you when you should lose your virginity.

My own opinion is that you should have had at least one sex ed lesson by sixteen.
