Life in American suburbia is an intriguing realm.
You try to find a daily routine, weekly routine, monthly routine simply to busy yourself to keep from contemplating the meaning of your life and your routines. Everyone who finds a good, steady, life-sustaining job is blessed, and even more so if they actually like that job.
Now if you find a friend -a real one that will stay by you for a long, long time- well, you've probably reached the jackpot.
Anton has no idea where he fits into these things.
He won't tell you all the details of his past, he won't tell you all the details of his current life, but he will, most assuredly, want to talk to you. He has this strangely obsessive air about him, an air of "there's no way you're getting past me without hearing me talk to you".
He wants to make you smile. He wants you to believe you're going to have a good day.
He wants you to believe you're worth it.
If you're not going to talk, then you're going to laugh. Joking and pleasing is his goal in American life. He likes to think he's a joker. He likes to think he's a lady magnet, too.
If you're a female, he's almost guaranteed to flirt with you. He'll make you feel like the prettiest one in the room -in the country- for a while, anyway. It might not be too bad, considering he isn't a hideous fellow, but it might be a little painful when you see that he also flirts with the girl behind you, and the girl following her, and the girl across the street. Try to ignore it, though. I think it's an addiction.
He's got some mad cooking skills -well, in-progress-mad-cooking skills- and magic guitar fingers, but his logic needs some more work (probably with a slap upside the head). He boogies often and wants to have you join him. He says he wants to join the circus so he can throw all his talents and love together He won't dare to go outside without long sleeves and long pants, no matter the season or weather. His skin blends in with gypsum sand and snow, so I wouldn't blame him. Maybe his skin tone is printing paper because he sleeps all day and throws parties all night, save for when he's indoors at work being a police snitch.
Why be a snitch when you're a criminal? It's a good thing he can erase his criminal history for the American system. It seems as though he's been around long enough -maybe too long- to be able to do it.
Snitching pays the bills for his modest home, a home he shares with his best and only friend, Kim Justice. She's handy when she wants to be, a bum for more of the time, friendly all the time and she's tomboyish, but she's hopelessly in love with him. She wouldn't dare say anything about it until Anton makes it clear that he might feel the same, but he keeps on going between flirting and joking, gazing into her eyes and giving friendly hugs. She's not sure if she's in a friend zone or if any of it means something longer and deeper.
He has a strange tendency to be close friends only with girls, and since they're girls, there's always some romantic baggage he puts into it. You can't be a close girl-friend (not to be confused with the "girlfriend" term that's used for official committed relationships) if you don't flirt and accept his flirts.
What a cruel man. He keeps you hoping and wanting something more, something real, but you'll keep getting pushed down by his suggestions of "let's just be friends".
Don't get too hopeful, girl. There isn't a guarantee that he'll let you be "the one", no matter what you do. I'm sure there are countless others he's done this to.
Take it from me, sister. This man deserves to be a circus freak. That way, his illusions of love and love for illusion can pay for the bills.
