My soon-to-be mother-in-law is an idiot. She asked on the phone, "Hey, do you want to trade my cat for yours?" And yes, she was 100% serious. She's asked this before. Like, straight up, "Can I have your cat?" And every single time we say, "NO. That is a ridiculous question! He's our cat! Stop asking!"
WHO EVEN DOES THAT? Seriously, who just up and asks someone if they can have their pet?!
I swear, this woman is challenged. She doesn't understand that OTHER PEOPLE have bonds with animals just like she does. She thinks, because she loves my cat, that no one else must love him like she does. IDK if she thinks we hide him under the stairwell, or starve him, or what, but she thinks we don't like him.
Ma'am. This cat is our baby. 95% of the night, this cat has been glued to my lap as I've vegetated on the couch or browsed the internet. I love him. Sometimes I get into moods where I hold him and cry because I know he's only got so many years with me. Clearly, I'm not going to give away this cat.
Some people. :l

Well, yipes, best watch your animals around her. x-x Sounds difficult.
I had a weird thing like that happen when I was younger with our horse. My mom and I were grooming him on the cross-ties of our boarding stable's aisle. This girl about 12 or so and her dad were hanging around, I suppose from a lesson, and she just kind of watched our guy for a while. Eventually, she said something about that he was a "pretty horse" or something, so we thanked her. She asked his name, etc. Then she asked if he was for sale.
o.0 What?!
I mean, it's not as weird as your mother-in-law-to-be, but who just outright asks someone if their horse is for sale after seeing him for 30 seconds standing on a cross tie? Needless to say, our guy was and never will be for sale.

Sachie Whitby I would say that's strange... and don't leave your cat alone around that woman as she will probably try to take it.
Right?!?! So I'm totally not crazy for thinking that exact same thing. I'll grant her that I don't think she ACTUALLY would take my kitty, but I just plain don't like her being around them. She always gets this screeching voice, "HIIIIII MAAALFOOOOYYY [[her nickname for him]]!! HIIIII. HIIIIII. HOW YOU DOING. HOW YOU DOING. YEAH. OH THERE'S YOUR [[my fiance's name]] THERE'S YOUR [[fiance's name]]." uuughhh
Kithy Kitty Some people are strange o_O My MiL always thinks I underfeed my fish. I certainly do not. But she's like "Oh they're STARVING!" No, they're goldfish. They think they are ALWAYS hungry. And a betta will beg til it's eyes pop out. They aren't hungry.
Ahah. Same thing happened to me when we were in her house for 7 months trying to find work. She would always feed him, which led me to feed him less so that he wasn't overfed, which led her to feeding him more... And if I asked her not to she would flip a royal gasket about "animal cruelty" and "underfeeding him".
Well, he was a fully-grown WalMart betta who lived for 3 years under my care before passing of old age. So. I guess I wasn't underfeeding him very much, was I?
