Zeme

Zeme is located between the Letor Mountains and the Nati Rainforest. It is a very spiritual city and it is said to be the place where the Ladies were originally born.

Separated from the rest of Jord by the Letor Mountains, the people here tend to fend for themselves and not rely on others to bring them things. Though travelers who wish to pass through the Nati Rainforest to Mesa should stop here for supplies.

Ramona and Fumiyo

As Elias travels through the shadows, the experience is every bit as uncomfortable and disorienting as before, if not worse since the distance traveled is much greater this time. However, after what seems like hours of endlessly free-falling through darkness, Elias once again finds his feet on solid ground--though with no clue as to where. He could here the sound of Ramona next to him falling to her knees and grabbing her stomach. "Ugh... I don't think I will ever get used to that. I don't know how you stomach it, Fumiyo. This is where you wanted to take us... right?"

The faint glow coming off of Ramona lets Elias see that they are standing in front of small, weathered cottage, built into the side of slowly sloping mountain. Below them, a few miles in the distance, lie the glittering lights of a large keep surrounded by a small town.

"Welcome to Zeme, birth place of the twin divines... I know it does not look like much to you all in the the darkness, but it will be beautiful in the daytime." Fumiyo turns around and smiles at them. "The people here keep to themselves and exist mostly independent from the rest of the kingdom. Their isolationist tendencies and lack of communication with the outside world should keep you out of the elf's notice for a while. Not even she has spies out this far."

In the dim light from Ramona, Elias could see Fumiyo motion to the cottage. "This will be your temporary home for now. It's paid for, so no one should ask any questions and its position on the mountain side allows you to see anyone coming long before they could reach this place. I'm afraid it will be a bit of a hike into town, though, but I'm sure you will manage."

Elias held himself together as much as he could but none the less the experience wasn't any better this time as it was the last. He looked around the new area and realized he didn't know where he was. Great where am I this time? He thought to himself. He heard the locations name Zeme. We are in Zeme...that far? He thought as he looked at the cottage and into distance. And how long is this living space going to last? Elias didn't want to say it but he knew he had to keep his word to help. But as a soldier being in a different territory, much less uninvited, can pose as a threat. And if the Vatra military can reach contact with there Lieutenant Colonel then they could accuse him of desertion. I'm assuming you have some income we could use for food and supplies am I right?

Huginn and Muninn hated the experience even more being stuck in the darkness wasn't pleasant for them. Once out they cawed at Fumiyo and flew away to explore the area and locate an embassy to Vatra just incase.

Ramona and Fumiyo

Though it was difficult to make out the gesture in the dim light, Fumiyo shrugged her shoulders at Elais's question. "It's difficult to say at this point. Menithlea has a lot of leads to search. She has spread her assets fairly thin scouring the nations for us. I will say this, though: it is not a matter of if, but when she will discover this location. I'll do my best to lengthen that time as much as possible. Oh, and as far as money is concerned, you'll find plenty of it hidden away in the house--though I guess you could always find a job in town, if you are so inclined, but I think you will be you'll be busy enough as it is. "

Ramona suddenly looked intently at Fumiyo, there was a look of sadness in her eyes. "You're not staying with us... are you."

Fumiyo smiled back bitterly. "I'm sorry. I really wish I could... but I have a responsibility to all the others I helped escape. They were counting on me and I let them down. I have to set things right. "

Ramona tried to react calmly to Fumiyo's words but her emotions were all too obvious in her face. "I just finally found you again. You can't already leave. And you did keep your promise. You freed us all from that horrible place!" Tears began to well up in Ramona's glowing eyes. "What's the point of being free if we can't even be together?"

Fumiyo moved forward and embraced Ramona, gently wiping away her tears. "Now, now, we can't be selfish. Think of Corisca, Ying, Dresden, Seraphina and all the others. They are all now lost and alone, scattered to the far corners of this continent, all due to my inability to maintain the shadow teleport. There's no telling what will happen if the forces of Hava find them. I will not abandon them to that fate."

Fumiyo hugs Ramona tightly and makes her look her in the eyes. "Now I need you to be strong, just like you were in the labs. We're going to survive this. Elias is going to teach you how to control your fire. Once you have mastered your abilities, you can come along and help me find and rescue the others. I'll come back and check up on you as often as I can, but for now I need you to be strong. Show me you are capable of everything I believe you to be."

Once freed from Fumiyo's embrace, Ramona wipes her eyes. She looks up at her with a determined look. "I won't let you down. I will be strong. I will work for the day we can be together again."

Fumiyo smiles at Ramona and teasingly rubs her head. "That's the spirit." She then turns and looks at Elias. "Now, Elias don't let me down either. You're going to need a lot of energy to keep up with this girl. Try not to get burned! And... thank you... for doing this. You don't know how much I owe you. I still need to find a decent way to repay you in the future, hehe."

With her parting words Fumiyo vanished from sight, leaving Ramona and Elias standing in front of the cottage. Huginn and Muninn, being diurnal creatures, are unable to to really see anything in the night. However, Elias could feel pretty confident that there was no Vatra embassy in this isolated mountain community. He would need to head in to one of the larger cities for that.

Elias listened to Fumiyo and nodded he didn't mean to sound rude it is because he is a soldier and wanted to be sure he is informed. He watched the scene played out in front how well these two acted towards each other vaguely reminded him about his own brother. But it quickly and silently passed. May your trip be a safe one Fumiyo. He watched as she dissapeared leaving him alone with Ramona. He looked over and took a deep breathe in the awkward silence before talking. Before we begin this one: my name is Elias and two: sorry for shooting fire at you back at the temple in Vatra things were different then and I rushed in without listening yo Fumiyo. He hoped he came off sincere but he highly doubt it.

After a while he looked over the horizon and produced a small flame on his left hand. With his right he whistled for the Ravens to return to him to rest.

Ramona smiled weakly at Elias. "It's all right, there's no need to apologize; if Fumiyo trusts you, then so do I. Shooting fire at me really doesn't do much, anyways. " Ramona lets out a deep sigh. "I'm guessing Fumiyo has pretty much left in you the dark about everything. She tends to tell people only what they need to know. It's just who she is, and right now she's got a lot of weight on her shoulders. I'm sure you have a lot of questions and I'll be happy to answer them in the morning. For now, let us get some sleep."

Ramona opens the door to the cottage and steps inside. For its size, the place looks nicely equipped with several small rooms leading back into the mountain. She immediately finds the the first room with a bed and flops down on it. Within minutes, she is asleep.

Elias nodded to Ramona as she went in he didn't follow suit yet until his friends arrived. Huginn and Muninn fly in and perch on Elias' s gauntlet. Any luck? He asked just to see if an Embassy was around. The birds didn't caw to it meaning there was nothing in the town to contact the Vatra military. Well it could always be worse he thought. He let the two into the cottage and he found a room to suit him and his Raven friends. He fell asleep immediately afterwards.

As morning came Elias awoke to the dawns light breaking through his window. He yawned and got up to prepare a good meal before he began her training. He found the kitchen and immediately took inventory before preparing eggs, frying bacon and toast. The Ravens instead flew out of the kitchen window 5o hunt for food and explore for Elias and Ramona. And even act as security alarms.

Ramona slept for a while after Elias had risen, but the smell of freshly cooked breakfast eventfully rose her from her slumber. Ramona wandered out of her of her room groggy and bleary eyed. She was only half dressed and her fiery hair was no longer tied up, causing it to flail about like a living flame. Surprisingly, it did not light anything on fire and Elias would notice no heat issued forth from it.

Upon entering the kitchen, Ramona's glowing eyes were immediately drawn to the food Elias was preparing. She asked in shyly in a sleepy voice, "Is...is that food for both of us?"

As Huginn and Muninn fly around the beautiful mountain landscape, they do not see much beyond the rolling grassy hills and the occasional clusters of trees. The town below clustered around a central keep seemed to be slow to rise with very few people out and about this early in the morning.

Elias slightly jerked for a moment forgetting he had company. Usually when he is doing a task he tends to be oblivious of the world around him. He hopped to fix that problem since as a Lieutenant Colonel he would need to help build a battle plan for his soldiers to come back alive. Jeez you startled me. But yes the food is for the both of us. Be lucky a soldier would have been woken up abruptly and made to train before a bite of food or even a drop of water. He should know his grandfather had trained him before he joined the Vatra mIlitary. Him and his brother quickly surpassed the people in the training camp because of it. He went to set up the table and put out two plates for himself and Ramona, unsure if Fumiyo would appear suddenly he decided to get a third plate and set it up just incase. Grab whatever you want training begins today.

Huginn and Muninn decided to explore the small town after looking about the Mountain side. In a sense they went to observe the people. When it came to Ravens some interpret them as ill omens, as is someone would die soon. Others can see Ravens as messengers of the Dead or the souls of the dead back to watch them. Huginn only watched while Muninn participated in taunting people to see how they would react.

Ramona

Ramona nodded at Elias's comment but did not seem fazed by it. She responded happily "Wow, thank you!" and took a rather large helping of eggs bacon and toast, enough to make someone question when was the last time she might have eaten.

Ramona sat down at the small dining table and began to ravenously eat her breakfast. However, after a moment or so she seemed to realize she didn't have to rush and began to slow down. She began to leisurely look out a nearby window at beautiful mountain landscape while taking little bites of her toast. After a little while Elias would hear a stifled sob come form her direction . Tears were welling up in Ramonas eyes and trickling down the side of her face, yet she bore a pleasant smile on her lips.

As the ravens fly around town the few people out this early in the morning seemed to pay them little attention. Either ravens were a fmiler bird here or the people lacked any superstitions about them. Whatever the case the most reaction Muninn got out of people was an anyone look as they went about their business. However, there was a large tomcat on a fence that seemed begin to pay him attention, though not of the kind he would want.

Elias ate his food slowly he didn't made any comments about her eating to fast. He was never the type to force someone to eat anyway. At least until he heard her sobing he looked up and saw the tears and the smile. Unsure what to say he took a deep breath and decided to at least let her know how he felt about all this. I will say this Ramona. I dont expect you to tell me what happen. Just let you know that you can trust me not to be hunting you. Even if im under military order to do so. To Elias that was a risky promise because it can cause him to be a fugitive but after hearing the small pieces of there story he would do everything in his power to make sure they are safe now.

The tomcats look made Huginn and Muninn catious and started to make some fun. Huginn normally doesn't try to engage but this time they would Huginn flew away and decided to get behind the cat to pull the tail while Muninn messes and taunt it..

Ramona jumps a little at Elias's voice; she seems to have zoned out a bit in her emotional state. However, she turns to Elias and continues to smile. "Thank you--it means a lot to me to hear you say that. And you can ask any questions of me you want. We owe you at least that much, though that knowledge will come with its own level of danger. I'm sorry to get all emotional like this, its just... I cant remember the last time I was able to to have a breakfast like this. I... I feel like for the first time, in a long while... I finally can relax a bit. It's a strange feeling."


The old tomcat seemed to have some wisdom and perception due to his age for he turned to look at Huggin as the crow tried to swoop in behind him. The cat's tail began to swish around excitedly as his ears rapidly swiveled between the two birds. He looked quite ready to pounce at either of them if they were foolish enough to get into range.

Elias spoke as if he knew the experience all to well. I understand what you mean. Enjoy the time you have and the faces you meet along the way. You never know when ones time will come to an end. He funished off the rest of his food and took his dish to place it on the sink. As a teacher now he needed to prepare a pretest for Ramona in order to see wherr her concentration fell on the manipulation of fire. He didn't allow her to ask anymore questions to his past. He only told her to meet him outside when she felt ready. Outside he prepared a assortment of leaves, twigs, and stones in order to test her.

When Huginn saw the cat now facing him he knew that he needed to be the distration while Muninn starts a tail pulling if he can. Huginn starts to caw and mimic his voice to make the cat either jump or hesitate. He even started to ruffle his feather so he would look bigger. Muninn got in closer and made a attempt to grab the tail. Only to jump back out of reach of the cat. The birds knew one thing they found a respectable opponent. At least until they return to Elias.

Once Elias had gone outside, it did not take Ramona long to join him. She emerged from the cozy cottage fully dressed, wearing a hooded cloak to cover her fiery hair and orange skin. She glanced around at the rolling green hillside that the cottage was built on. With the exception of the town in the distance, there was nothing for miles but long grass and the occasional tree. Ramona mused aloud. "Huh, you know, it's been a while since I've been this out in the open. It's hard to not be a little fearful. I hope no one finds our activities out here suspicious..." With a shake of her head Ramona quickly chased away that worrying thoughts. It was obvious the mental scars from her escape were still quite fresh, but she seemed determined to push past them. She focused her gaze on Elias and with a eager smile, said, "Well, how shall we begin?"

The large tom cat that Huginn and Muninn had been doggedly harassing finally seemed to get fed up with crows's antics. It jumped off its perch on the fence and ran down a back alley, leaving the crows to themselves.
