Lily Fairbanks was pretty with cream-colored short hair and amazingly clear and bright blue eyes. She was also, it seemed, quite clumsy. She practically fell in and Ebony was surprised that both she and her drums had not ended up broken. She ignored Lily's exuberant welcome with a slight sigh and looked hopefully at the door behind Lily. She had expected her to have brought some more followers, but it seemed that this was it. She glanced at Alex, who had just finished turning his guitar's pegs. He looked none too pleased to be the only guy in this little club.
At least he had his sister for company, and vice versa. It wasn't like Ebony had anyone. And Yumi would find or make friends. She always had someone trailing behind her like a lovesick puppy. Especially the guys. She hoped she wouldn't have to watch Alex fawn over Yumi. That would be depressing. She very briefly reflected on how no boy had ever shown any interest in her, much less spoke to her. Well, in a polite manner at least.
She looked back up to Lily. Her voice was steady, but a little quiet. She hoped no one would ask her to repeat herself. She asked, "What will this first meeting be all about?"

Yumi nodded politely as Ava and Alex introduced herself. She considered introducing herself when the girl, Lily Fairbanks, tumbled in. Yumi raised a brow as she noted the others: Ebony played violin, Alex played guitar, Lily probably played the drums, so what did the girl do? Sing? Would that make Yumi useless, of course she could pick up most instruments fairly quickly, and she was quite good on the piano. Truth be told, Yumi preferred to play piano or an instrument over singing, but singing tended to get her more attention.

"Clearview High music club?" Yumi asked. "Is that we are?" She bowed slightly to the others and said, "I am Yumi Reynolds. I heard a rumor someone, I assume you, Miss Fairbanks, was interested in starting a band. So what are we? Your new band or your little music club? Do you even know what are talents are?"

She took a breath and pause, waiting on Lily's answer with a raised brow with a smile. Yumi recognized the girl wanted to be recognized as top dog and Yumi was willing to grant her that place for now. She wasn't going to challenge leadership unnecessarily.

With a sigh, Lily noted that her first impression of Yumi was likely correct. She could guess by the little quirks in her voice and expression that the girl looked down on her, but shrugged it off. "After all" she concluded, "adversaries make things a lot more interesting." Although the temptation to give the girl a cold glance was strong, she resisted it; she would get nowhere by openly causing a confrontation. Favoring the group with another bright smile, she shook her head. "Of course not! That's what makes it fun!" Surveying the room, she made a mental checklist of those that she did know. "And Ebony, today I plan on just getting together the logistics of everything. Band, instruments, and such."

Scurrying over to the room's whiteboard, she uncapped a black marker and scrawled "School Festival: 3 Months!" Smacking a hand across it roughly enough to make the board shake, she said with increasing volume "If you'll join me, that's our goal, guys! We're going to give the most amazing performance ever at the school festival, got that?" As bad as she felt for dragging the others into her plans, Lily couldn't contain her excitement at just the thought.

Ebony smirked and openly rolled her eyes. She should have known that it would boil down to this: Yumi versus Lily. The school's little "rockstar" against the overly-perky girl who actually decided to start whatever this was. She wondered who would win. If she hadn't heard about Yumi, she would have assumed the founder of the club would end up superior. But Yumi wasn't one to just stand in the back and sing harmony while someone took center-stage, belting out the melody. Well, as long as Ebony got to play, she wasn't going to fight anyone. She, after all, didn't really want all the attention. She joined orchestra, actually, because of that: because everyone was important in a team like that. And a team meant security, someone having your back...comfort. Even though she didn't need anyone to fall back on because she barely ever made mistakes, it was still a happy thought. But she wasn't sure if she would have the same feeling with this group."We're going to give the most amazing performance ever at the school festival, got that?" Lily exulted at top volume. The spark in her eye and her unshakable determination gave the impression of a junior Oliver Wood. Ebony's interest hadn't been piqued in a while. A long while. But with this, she could actually hope for some excitement. Ebony let the tiniest half-smile creep on her face as she nodded, held up a single hand, and said, "I'm in."

((Oliver Wood is a character from Harry Potter and in no way my original character.))

~|Ava and Alex|~

Ava and Alex glance at each other. Ava nods at him, and he nods back.
"I'm in too. This sounds like a lot of fun!" Ava exclaims. "Count me in. If we work hard at it, I'm sure we'll rock the Festival." Alex says.
Of course, they knew that the group would work hard, otherwise, why did they even show up?
I can't wait! This is so exciting! Ava thought.
Being in a band full of girls is going to be rough... They better not expect me to flirt with any of them... I don't have time for such things if we're going to be playing at the Festival... Alex thought, looking around the room at the rest of his bandmates.

Yumi smiled the girl was enthusiastic, she had to give the girl that. Nodding she finally said with a pause, "I'm in... for now. This sounds more entertaining than the usual parties and hanging out I do with my spare time." She shrugged and having a project would give her more time to avoid the occasional date request and she wouldn't have to lie. She held a polite smile evaluating the group, they all seemed serious and she knew at least Ebony was good (well, better than good if her mother took note of her). In some ways she had hoped it would be all female as she was less likely having to deal with others' flirting, but maybe everyone's seriousness would win over. Flirting, she thought with distaste, what a waste of time.

"I can spare the time," Yumi continued. "Three months isn't that long to make this work: it's a big commitment. We'll have to practice on our own and together, especially if it is decided we need to learn a different instrument. Space for the weekends will be needed. I can provide that, though, any weekend Mother or Father are not home, which is most weekends."

"I will let you take the lead, Miss Fairbanks, though, so we can work out the rest of the logistics of this venture," Yumi said smiling and sat down in a chair in front of the whiteboard. On her leg she began to tap out piano chords with a small smile, her mother was bound to be there to watch Yumi perform her usual singing piece in accompany with her piano playing at the Festival, but also performing in some band would give the woman a cow. It would be a label of a "waste of time" by her mother, especially during Yumi's senior year. This could be entertaining at the very least for Yumi.

Ebony wondered how long Yumi would let Lily take the lead. Ebony was positive that Lily would not be in control forever. The only question was how long would it be until Yumi took center stage. She agreed with what she had said though. If Lily wanted to give the best performance ever, they would need to get together a lot. When that wasn't possible, everyone had to be working hard at their own part. "I think what Yumi said is very true. About the learning different instruments: we need to find out what all of us are willing to learn or what we have some experience with."

((Sorry this was short. I was waiting for others to write, but I just decided to post this to make it move along.))

~|Ava and Alex|~

Ava and Alex nodded. They all needed to know what instruments they all could play to broaden their horizons on what type of music they could play. Ava was the first to speak up out of the two of them.
"Well, I can sing, if that counts. I can also play the keyboard a little, and Alex taught me a little on the guitar." she says, gesturing to her brother.
"I play guitar. Any kind of guitar, I can play it. Ava says I have a good singing voice, but I don't know about that." Alex says, actually saying more than a few words to the group.
In truth, Ava and Alex could learn how to play any instrument if they set their minds to it.

Yumi smiled at Ava and Alex's assertions of their talents. She wasn't surprised that the girl Ava indicated she was a singer. Usually when you came to a meeting like this without an instrument it either meant you played too large of an instrument (like a piano) or you were a singer. She smiled at Ava and Alex and said, "How cute. I sing, too, though my specialty is opera. I've been trained vocally since I was a child along with being trained on the piano. Personally, I think my talents are better suited to the piano."

Still smiling, she brushed her long pony tail off her shoulder with long slender fingers and continued, "Of course, I can play the viola some since Mother forced me to learn that when I was younger but that ship has sailed. And, one weekend I visited my brother I did learn a few chords and a couple real simple songs on the guitar from his roommate, but I don't think that counts." She shrugged, still smiling- partially a happy innocent smile and partially an almost predatory smile.

Ebony almost burst out laughing. And it took a lot for her to make her even smile. She pressed her lips together and intersected her hands' fingers in on each other, fiddling with her thumbs. Yumi had, in one simple sweep, blown them all out of the water. She had squashed Ava's singing with her opera. She had trumped Alex's guitar playing with her chords and simple songs. (Ebony had a sneaking suspicion that they weren't quite as simple as what she said.) And she had thrown Ebony off her high, orchestrated horse with the viola, even though she had said that it was only when she was younger. Drums were what Lily played, right? She wondered if Yumi did that, too. Ebony peered through her lashes at Yumi's sweet smile with just a tinge of poison. Yumi was a shark, no doubt. But it was greatly entertaining to Ebony. Just so long as Yumi didn't turn on her, of course.
Pushing the humor aside, she thought deeply about what she could do. She was deeply ashamed to admit that the only instrument she could play was the violin. She could play a little bit of the piano, but there was no way she was going to challenge Yumi. Ebony was not the sort of girl to seek out trouble. Most of the time. She moved on, considering what else she could do and what she was willing to do. She shook her head, her eyebrows knitted together. A single lucid thought had diminished her thinking process: She truly was useless. All she could do was the violin. Try as she might, it would be hard to "rock out" on such a classical instrument. She supposed she could get an electric violin, but her only hope was that the school had some. There was no way she'd be able to afford it. She had the quality part down pat with the violin, but the quantity? All she had was the violin. She tried to make up for it by volunteering,"I'd be willing to learn any instrument...something that uses the treble clef would be preferable, as I can only play the violin."
