The obstacle course was interesting to say the least. It was a purely physical task testing the mares balance speed, strength and agility. Jett waited for the mares to assemble before leading them on a tour of the challenges they faced. Beside her stood the four teens from the drum circle and about six of their friends. They would be helping her, in what manner had yet to be revealed. "Here you will prove your ability to bear the crown and title of Spring Queen! You need to complete each challenge with the quickest time, all the while, balancing a bowl of eggs upon your head!" She lifted a small flat bottomed bowl, containing 5 fresh eggs. " Follow me please and I'll explain the challenges."
The first task she stopped beside was a long balance beam. Steps led up to a narrow plank of wood, not quite as wide as an average mearhs hoof. It stood about three feet from the ground and gradually inclined, topping at four feet with a small platform. There it stopped with a three foot gap before continuing in a gradual decline to stairs at the opposite end. "Your first challenge is simple enough. With the bowl of eggs on your head you'll start at the base of the steps. Walk along the beam till you reach the platform. Jump or take a wide step to the other platform, then walk down the other half of the beam and dismount." She turned and faced the crowd. "With the exception of the jump, at least one foot must remain on the beam at all times."

Jett beckoned you to follow her to the second challenge. Two large water barrels stood about ten feet apart. One was full, the other was empty. Both had a thick black line about 2/3rds up it's side. A smaller hand bucket stood next to the full one. "You need to fill the empty barrel above the marked line from the other barrel with the hand bucket. From my experience...it should take somewhere around 15 full buckets to fill the barrel to the line. Do this as fast as possible without dropping your eggs."

The kids moved to form two lines, facing each other with a wide path between them. Five picked up brightly colored cloth balls, each about the size of a grapefruit from the ground. From the looks of it the balls were filled with sand. They began gently tossing them between each other, not always to the person across from them. Sometimes they threw high over head, sometimes low but there was no predictable pattern in their game. "You'll walk between the two lines, dodging the balls and keeping your eggs safely balanced upon your head."

She continued to the fourth challenge. Before you are three round tables, each set to seat 6. A large basket of apple sized rocks sat on the ground. "Your goal here is to put an 'apple' into each bowl. There's a catch though!" She gestured to the teens again. "These children will be sitting in random places. One at a time in no particular order they will call out a number between 1 and 5. You must then go to their seat and drop that many 'apples' into their bowl before continuing with the rest of the tables. Remember your balance! Don't loose your eggs." Here the teens grinned. There was no doubt they didn't plan on making this easy for anyone.

There were no obvious clues to the nature of the fifth and final task. Thin branches had been shoved into the ground, acting as posts and creating a large open ring of uneven and rocky grass. "Here is your final test. Think of it as a combination of tag and keep-away. You will be playing against 5 of the teens. Each will be holding a ribbon in their left hand. You must try to take the ribbons from their hands. Your task will be complete when you claim all 5 ribbons." With her tour finished, she returned to the first task and stood ready to hand a bowl of eggs to each participant.
