Okay, so, maybe slapping her was a bad, but what else was he supposed to do? Talking wasn't getting him anywhere and her constant rebuffs were starting to grate on his nerves. Her fury did little to mask the sudden surge of magical energy around them; in fact, it only served to help indicate the cause. So what if he didn't have a complete grip on his emotions? At least he wasn't running around and trying to kill himself. Something shifted in his eyes at her next remark though; like gears shifting into place. Coward? He certainly was, but not for the reasons she had mentioned. It did cause memories to flicker in his mind though, ones he had buried so long ago. "How should I have resolved it then? Pray tell, O wise one."

When she commented on his punishment, his eyes narrowed. More images pulled to the forefront of his thoughts. "It's better than a whip, don't you think? What would you have done?" Honestly, it was better than most of what he had received as a child. Although, for her reaction to be so adverse, things must have changed a great deal since then. Not that he would have known given his lack of contact with people. He sighed and crouched down in front of her. "What do you want from me Hazel?"

After a few moments of silent bitter tears, the elf girl looked to the side, away from him. He seemed like he didn't understand her at all... At his sarcastic comment about how she would have resolved the situation, Hazel's gaze returned to his, bitter tears in her eyes. "Sarcasm isn't helping anything." She snapped. Her expression contorted to one of sadness and not anger as he mentioned it being better than a whip.. Flashbacks to her childhood started plaguing her mind. Her father was an abusive, cruel, almost seeming possessed with anger type. The girl did know what a whip felt like... She also knew what a knife across the eye felt like. She had the hidden scar and half-blinded eye to prove it underneath the bandages over her right eye.. Pulling her knees to her chest, the elf let out a sharp sigh. "I ... I don't even know anymore..." She muttered. "I just know if my mother had seen any of this, she would've smacked my butt a century backwards..." She sighed.

Yeah, she was probably right about the sarcasm, but he couldn't help the words which spilled from his lips. She had him all twisted up with her reactions though, it was...odd. There was a reason he had avoided people for so long, but he couldn't exactly leave her alone. 'Damn it all!' The male let out a groan and covered his face with one hand. He couldn't rightfully blame her for the current situation...well, not entirely. "Fine. I'm sorry." He meant it. Really. It just...didn't sound that way. The situation at hand had made him rather irritable, and the tense atmosphere between them did nothing to help ease his displeasure. It was more himself that he was annoyed with anyway for letting her get under his skin like this.

He focused more closely on the change in her expression at his mention of a whip. She knew the pain it caused then? Quite well, if the look on her face was any indication. Just like that, all of his anger and irritation faded away. Suddenly, he found himself wondering what other pains she had known. What had it taken to drive her to the point of suicide? Perhaps there was more to this girl than he had first thought. There was only one way to figure that out though, he needed her to talk to him. Open up, really. But that surely wouldn't happen if things kept going the way they did.... How was he supposed to mend the rift they had so quickly created though?

A chuckle rumbled out of him at her next words. He couldn't help the sudden sound.
"Truly? She sounds like quite a formidable woman to be able to tame one such as yourself. At the very least, she could surely handle people better than me." Zephyr reached a hand out to her, his expression becoming slightly more serious as he did so. A part of him compelled the man to stroke her cheek, but he instead let his hand hang before her. "A truce, Hazel? I let my emotions get the best of me and I lashed out at you. I'm sorry." If she didn't accept, well he would have to find a way to prove to her that he wasn't quite as bad as he had just demonstrated himself to be. In the mean time, he could at least keep watch over her.

Hazel sat silently in the grass, not entirely sure whether she should be concerned on the male questioning if slapping her was better than a whip. Was he considering using one on her? No... He didn't seem to be hostile in a violent way.. Perhaps... He also knew what one felt like... Hazel didn't like the thought of anyone being harmed in the same manner she had been harmed in. She wouldn't wish it on her worst enemy. Well, that was a lie. She'd wish it on her father. The traitor was the reason her mother was dead, and the reason she was a slave. Even though technically she wasn't considered a slave here. Glancing at the male, she noticed he had his face covered with his palm. But the words that came out of his mouth next were what confounded her... He was apologizing...? Usually masters felt justified in striking someone beneath them. Maybe... Maybe he was different?

Blinking back the surprised look on her face, she looked back down. "It's fine..." She muttered, pulling her knees closer to her chest protectively. There was an awkward silence before the girl heard a chuckle. Looking at him curiously, she looked a tad confused as to why he had let that chuckle slip out. But before she could ask; the explanation presented itself in his next words. A small smile formed on the elf's face when he called her mother a 'formidable woman'. "She was truly a warrior spirit..." Hazel replied, tearing up momentarily. "She was my rock.. My traitor of a father was like sand or dust in comparison..."

Looking to the outstretched hand, Hazel sighed and nodded. "Doesn't seem like arguing has gotten us anywhere, so.. Sure.." She half-joked, taking his hand.

Was it really fine though? Her actions spoke otherwise, but perhaps he could take it as her accepting his apology? A moment later, after his comment about her mother, the girl smiled which was a welcome change given their exchange thus far. The moment, however, was short lived as Hazel recalled her mother. Again, she mentioned her father and labeled the man as a traitor, but what caused her to call the man that? Why was her opinion of her father so low? "What did your father do?" There was a moment of silence before the male spoke again. Zephyr was hesitant to ask the question, but ultimately his curiosity won out.

The vampire grinned at Hazel's response as she took his hand.
"No, I don't think it has." Honestly, it was somewhat surprising at how suddenly their conversation had taken a turn into such negative territory. He wasn't free of blame in the matter either. In fact, he had seemingly kept adding fuel to the fire throughout their little exchange. Starting over really did seem like the best option at this point. "So, uh, what shall we do now?" Zephyr was most definitely at a loss for where to turn their conversation now. Should they stay outside or go inside? Roam around or sit down and talk?

((O.nly O.n C.abaret: Sorry for the uber delay. T^T And he is very awkward, Hazel gets to him. xD))

Hazel shifted uncomfortably from one foot to the other, sensing a doubt from the male that made her begin to feel incredibly awkward. Holding her hand to her opposite shoulder protectively, she glanced down and to the side, a slightly nervous expression she rarely showed visible on her face. The awkward silence from the male wasn't helping much, either... However, her attention snapped to him again when he questioned what her father did. Her expression twisted as her eyes darkened slightly, her nervous expression morphing into one of conflicted emotion. She didn't know whether she was angry or just overemotional due to being forced to relive her past. She let out a heavy sigh, hesitating and looking to him, before frowning and leaning back against the tree once more. "If you need to know why I speak of the b*****d so coldly, you will need to know what led up to him earning the titles of a cruel, treacherous, traitor and a coward..." She sighed, sliding to the trunk of the tree, sitting and leaning back on it, closing her eyes and letting a sharp sigh loose.

Her eyes looked back up at the man, none of the emotions in them positive or happy ones. Frowning, her gaze fell back to her hands, which gripped into fists almost tightly enough to draw blood, had her nails been aimed towards her palms. "My...father... Is the reason my mother was assassinated. The reason she's... gone... Is because he... he hired the most renowned mercenary with the bribery of all the money he could live off of if he offed the queen... Since he had a woman on the side, he couldn't make that woman queen until my mother was out of the picture.." She explained, her eyes darkening. "I saw the deal being made with my own eyes ... I went to try to warn her... But the assassin
had fatally injured her and fled... Before I could stop him... She told me to flee whilst I could... I tried to refuse, but the plot he had in store began and somehow he convinced everyone in the kingdom that it was my fault she was killed... I only had moments left with her... The last thing she said..."
Tears formed in the elf girl's eyes as she looked back up to him, "She said I would return someday .. that I should return to reclaim the throne... But with all the brainwashing the man put the kingdom through, they think I'M the enemy..." She muttered, tears now freely falling from her eyes..
