Cecil laughed. It was a harsh thing to say, but maybe that was why it was funnier than he expected. When Sawyer spoke again, the cop grew silent. "If it's about another of our friends you had sex with or what Leon was like in bed, I don't want to hear it," he said seriously.

No sex happened, but there was more making out with random objects than can be believed." He laughed it off, then placed his hand on Cecil's shoulder and gestured with his other hand to himself. "You remember when I told you that I never ever wanted to get married again?"

"God," the cop shook his head slowly while putting his good hand on his forehead. "They threw a going away party for me when I left. The whole precinct isn't afraid of Fredrich anymore now that they know how much he loves karaoke." He dropped his hand when Sawyer talked about marriage, giving him a small smile. "Yeah. Don't worry. I'm not going to try and corner you into it again. I'm fine waiting, just as long as it's with you," he assured.

Stifling a laugh at the memory of the intimidating detective and his love for karaoke, Sawyer stood and moved in front of Cecil. "That's what I'm trying to get at, Cecil. I don't want to wait anymore." He took both of Cecil's hands, holding them gently and looking into his lover's eyes. "Cecil, when I got married to Holly and Brittany, it was never for the right reasons. Holly and I got married because she was pregnant. Brittany and I got married because we were both stupid drunk. I never got to really delve into any other reasons for marriage, until I met you. You... You are perfect. There isn't a thing about you that I don't love. I could go on for hours about what makes you incredible, but right now there's something more important that I have to ask." He slowly knelt down on one knee, brown eyes gazing lovingly up at the police chief.

Cecil pursed his lips, a blush forming over his cheeks as he heard Sawyer ramble on about loving him. What was this, some lip service to ensure he wouldn't get upset from earlier?
And then it hit him.
He was talking about marriage.
Cecil's eyes widened slightly when he saw Sawyer get down on one knee. "What are you...?" he whispered, his good hand covering his gaping mouth. This was a joke. It had to be.

Sawyer let go of Cecil's hands to reach into his pocket. "I wanted to wait a little longer, maybe after the baby was a little more than fresh and we probably weren't about to steal a spotlight, but this is one of the only times I'm ever going to be alone with you, so better now than never." Pulling a box out of his pocket, he opened it and looked up at his long-time love. Inside the box was a beautiful ring, glittering cheerily up at the police chief as though it had been waiting years for this moment.
Sawyer cleared his throat, then glanced downwards briefly before looking back to Cecil, a hopeful expression on his face. "Cecil Tealy, will you marry me?" he asked, stopping himself from adding on to the classic question and saying something stupid.

Cecil gaped at the ring held out to him, its shine brilliant enough to blind him. How long had Sawyer been holding that? His chest was hurting, and after a second he realized he wasn't breathing. Taking a deep breath, he placed his hand over his chest, feeling his heart beat rapidly. He stayed silent for a second. It was like he had forgotten how to speak. After all these years, he was being proposed to. And by Sawyer, of all people.
"Yes," he heard himself say. He smiled widely, enough to hurt his face but didn't care, and nodded dumbly. "Yes, of course!"

Slipping the ring onto the officer's finger, Sawyer stood and wrapped his arms around his lover, kissing him deeply. He pulled away after a moment, grinning. "Really? You really mean it?" he asked.

Although his wrist hurt, it was a small feeling in comparison to his overwhelming excitement and joy. "Of course!" he laughed when Sawyer spoke, wrapping his arms around his neck. He tilted his hand back to gaze at the ring, which sparkled brilliantly even under the fluorescent lights. "I have so many questions. When did you get this?"

Cecil shook his head and smiled at Sawyer, giving him another kiss. "I love it," he assured and glanced at it again. "Cecil Loupohl," he mumbled quietly, his smile widening again. "I like the sound of that."
The door clicked open as the doctor walked in, introducing himself only to stop mid-sentence and stare at the strange scene.
