It was everything she could do to stop herself from grinning. If she were able to, Shade would be trembling with excitement.

She slithered around the Fox-kin like a hungry panther. "She doesn't know it, but I was the one who gave her the power to manipulate and travel the shadows. She was a heartbroken and half dead when I came upon her. Now she is a modern legend."

"But what I gave her was only a fraction I can give. It is as you say, you are far more gifted in the mystical arts. I can give you power second only to me. Then you could protect not only yourself, but the people Alec worries about as well."

"What say you, Kerana?"

All of that power, being able to protect the people Alec was worried about and to finally be together and live happily ever after!? She was about to say YES but she stop and thought about it. She was tought when offered such a thing considered to give careful consideration of the consequences. All of that power, given and not learned could she really control of that? That would totally be irresponsible and chaotic.

She originally came here to become numb, to the pain caused by the 'truth' she discovered. The love she has for him would only get in the way of their quest, especially if he wasn't going to act upon it. She took a deep breath shaking off that train of thought.

If it was anyone else they wouldn't give it another thought and say yes. Kerana looked to her dark friend. "I appreciate the offer, but I'm afraid power is not what I want… instead I rather have my love removed… it'll only get in the way and continue to ache…" her eyes leaked. "There's no point in having it if there's no way he and I can be together. At that point I might as well be out of his way."

Ruby was squeaking cheerfully. Enough that Nova dropped her off. It was a little too much for his ears. He felt magic being used nearby. Not theirs, at least the source of it was not theirs.

"Yes and it's not a good thing.....that idiot." Nova replied growing more angry as he said it. " Don't interfere"

Using Wind Magic he surrounded himself in a dome and shot towards Kerana. He could see the shadow around her. When he reached her the dome vanished.

His eyes glared like daggers." You have 5 seconds to explain your actions, fox."

Alec sighed with relief. Even after ridding herself of fear, Kerana had retained her logic. He wasn't particularly pleased with how she arrived at her decision, but he was thankful none the less.

He felt a disturbance in the wind. He turned his head to look, but he was quickly forced to shield his eyes from the gust. He followed the path of the air currents and saw Nova reaching out for Kerana.

Shade swung behind Kerana and rooted herself into the girl's shadow. That connection allowed her to speak directly to Kerana without anyone else hearing what the shadow creature was saying. It also had the added benefit of heavily influencing a person's behavior and emotions through her words. It wasn't perfect, but she was confident that Kerana's will was as weak as her resentment and frustration were strong.

"He means to halt your progress. He doesn't trust you. He's never trusted you. He thinks you're weak and stupid. But you aren't. You're better than him. Smarter than him. He'll never understand your plight." she whispered in Kerana's mind.

Trinity couldn't help but feel that she had placed Alec in danger. When Nova told her to not interfere, she thought it would refer to the much needed confrontation with Kerana. She looked to Kaleth letting her know she was going. Hopefully her injuries aren't bad enough for her to be able to help.

She kneeled down so Ruby's eye level with worry. "Ruby a friend of mine is in trouble. I need your help. I need you to go to your mother and protect her." she had told her what she was once told by a soldier when he was helping protect the town from a siege of undead. She knew that if she merely told her to go to her mother that she may be curious and try to follow. Nova wouldn't like that one bit.

"Alec is in trouble, and I'm afraid I got him into it… Kaleth, I may need your help. Are you able to fight? Do you need me to heal you before we go? I'm not sure why but the accelerated healing seems to speed up more when I travel through shadow."

Trinity had no idea that depending how deep one goes into the shadow realm the slower time goes than the time on the surface. She didn't think timing had anything to do with it, that it was simply another way to travel like horseback riding.

She had no fear instilled with Nova's words.
Kerana growled, "Oh now you want to listen to me!?!? Now you want to know what I'm doing!?! You had to wait until I used my telekinesis to save my self from being squished by a falling wall to know I'm capable of light magic! You have a deaf ear when I expressed my concern for Alec's direction... besides... " tears started to fall "he's all yours now... I won't be in his way... I've asked to have my love for him removed... just as I did my fear...

Does that make you happy!?!? Does it make me more of an asset now?!
Little Kerana won't be in the way!

You never understood me! You'll never will!
I'm sick and tired of you getting in the way!!!"

Keleth nodded to Ruby to let her know that it was okay to listen to Trinity. Once the small dragon-kin was well on her way, the hammer happy dragon-kin grinned eagerly at Trinity and laughed, "Hah! I'd gladly follow you into battle after losing an arm!"

She winced once more from the pain in her ribs and grunted with another chuckle, "Heh, but a little healing would be appreciated. Lead the way!"

Alec could feel a low growl building up in his throat. That was not the Kerana he knew. That creature had twisted her into something unrecognizable, and the knowledge of that made his blood boil. Something primal began to overtake him, just as it had at the end of his fight with Leo. The desire to protect his charge, his beloved, his reason to become stronger...even if it meant his own life.

Zephyr called out to his host desperately, "Don't do it, Alec! Let Nova handle this! You'll only get yourself killed!"

Silhouette's sickly yellow eyes and malicious grin made themselves apparent to Nova. She continued to whisper to Kerana, her voice now echoing sweetly.

"That's wonderful, Kerana! Show him your strength. Show him your resolve. Show him by accepting my aid. No more love. No more tears. No more weakness. Your dreams are within reach."

"You need only say my name. My true name. Silhouette."

Alec could feel that evil coming from the creature. It was heavy, ancient, and corrupting the one he was sworn to protect. His eyes went wild as his instinct kicked in.

Zephyr could feel his influence falling further away as the rage took control. "Alec! Remember what I said! Don't let the rage fuel your power!"

Alec was done listening. He was done staying on the sidelines. He leaped from behind the bushes in his wolf form, ready to tear the creature to ribbons. But upon landing on the ground in front of his concealment, he was bound by smoking tendrils of darkness that burst from his own shadow. They wrapped around his limbs, torso, muzzle, and neck. He was pulled harshly to the ground, unable to move despite his wild thrashing. He continued to fight even as the coil around his neck began to tighten slowly.

The back of Silhouette's head grew a second set of eyes and mouth. She muted herself from Kerana's ears and murmured, "Down boy. You will die when Trinity can see your head fall from your body like a clipped flower bud."

Kerana was about to say it when she heard something from the bushes. She couldn't see clearly but something told her it was, "Alec?" She struggled but gotten out of her hold. Then the world was placed on pause as she ran toward him. She was overwhelmed with concern. Even if it wasn't Alec someone was being hurt and she couldn't let that happen.

She found Alec, she shook her head, "No, no, no-no-no, this... this is not supposed to happen... why did you follow me?" she tried to pull off the shadow bands especially around his neck to no avail. She closed her eyes and took a sharp breath. "Shade! What is the meaning of this!? There's no deal if anything happens to Alec!"

The fox girl began to wonder, was there anyone in this world she could trust?

With his arms and legs fully extended, Alec wasn't even able to reach out to Kerana as she tried to help him. His confinement was feeding his rage. Even as his air was being cut off, he was thrashing and snarling.

Silhouette swooped in and lurched over Kerana like a hungry vulture. She dropped any pretense of benevolence and maintained the manic appearance that she had revealed to Nova and Alec.

"No deal? Foolish child, you started to sign your name when I took your blood in that wreckage that nearly killed you. I even have part of your spirit within me; something this 'guardian' fought for dearly, I might add. And yet you were so eager to do away with it. Did you really think ridding yourself of all fear would come without consequences?"

"But you needn't worry about the boy. His life will be spared...once my true name has been said by you. You'd better decide quickly. The longer he fights, the tighter those binds will become."

The next squeeze actually caused Alec to yelp once like a wounded wolf.

Silhouette then glared at Nova and hissed, "And you, reincarnation of Soul. If you value the lives of these children then you will keep your distance and not utter a single syllable that even remotely sounds like an incantation. Interfere, and their lives, along with the lives of the Dragon-kin of this city, will be forfeit."

Trinity grinned at her enthusiasm. She couldn't but find that Keleth reminder her of herself at a younger age. Trinity placed her hand over the wound she has and whispered the incantation that caused it to start healing. She held on to her hand and they dropped into the shadow.

By the time they got there Keleth's wounds were mostly healed. Trinity looked at the situation from below. She saw that Alec was wrapped up with shadow manipulation and Kerana was there.

Kerana's eyes welled up. She knew whatever happened she knew Alec would find a way. "I'm sorry... Silhouette" her apology was directed toward Alec and her friends but Silhouette could also perceive it to be an apology to her.

Without being obvious Trinity tried to pull Alec down into the shadow completely.

"You've what?" Nova said incredulously. Have her love removed? The way she said it was that someone would have it removed. Her behavior was getting more and more dangerous. But this.....this had him unsettled

When he was lost in his thoughts on what this could be Alec had jumped in but was bound by...shadows? This was not Trinity's doing. Was it the Necromancer? No, it didn't feel like him. This was....something older but also...familiar.

Nova refrained from stepping in to help Alec and Kerana. This was why he was stern with her because she was naive and easy to manipulate. Again his train of thought was interrupted....Shade....Shade...Shade..Shade...What was it about that name that struck so deeply?

"Calm yourself Alec. You are not a rabid dog. You are the wind and right now you need to calm your storm." He send his thoughts to him. Especially after the shadow spoke to him. Now he was refraining himself.

Reincarnation of Soul.

Silhouette.

Those words echoed in his mind. That thing knew more about this! Information that he had lost! He needed answers. For once he did not have them.

With that utterance of her name, the once pseudo 2-D shadow was filled with her physical body. She licked her dark lips and mused, "Well done, girl. As promised I will spare the boy. 'Though I can't guarantee that you wont feel inclined to eat his heart."

She cackled maniacally and lunged forward, plunging her hand into Kerana's chest like it was air. It left no visible wound, but she was infecting the girl's heart with her wicked essence.

Nova's words rang through Alec's ears and reached him. But even though he was no longer fueled by rage, he was still fighting against his restrains wildly His golden eyes were overcome with regret and sorrow when the creature plunged her hand into Kerana's chest.

He could feel something else pulling at him, but his restraints only tightened in response to the interference.

Keleth saw what was happening to her new friends from the shadow realm. She didn't take tact or strategy into consideration. There was no consideration at all. Her body knew just what to do.

She burst from the shadow Trinity had brought her through and took to the air with her powerful legs. She grit her teeth as she tightened her grip on the hammer and focused on her occupied enemy.

She dug her feet into the soil when she landed and swung the hammer horizontally at the creature's torso with everything she had.
