Loneliness never penetrated too deep into Hayden's mind; he felt indifferent about spending forever in the large castle of his alone, and he didn't mind it at all. The occasional traveler would come in and stay if they were one of his kind, but if they were not . . . well then, the inevitable thing would happen to the poor soul that had just happened to walk into his domain. But a certain soul had been out in that unkind night and disturbed his sleep by crashing into his door and shoving it open, causing a large, disturbing sound that broke the beautiful silence he was so accustomed to.
Growling, baring his fangs, he hoped it was some sort of idiotic mortal that he could delve into for another meal. It couldn't have been past two, and already people were begging to be devoured my him. His tongue ran over sharp pearls, and he jumped out of his bed onto the wooden floor that groaned, feeling the weight of his body. Taking smooth steps out to the hallway, he peered down from the door frame of his room down into the lobby of the massive castle. A raspy, cigarette scarred voice broke the peaceful patter of rain violently smashing against the old rooftop.
"Who's there?"
