It has become quite well known that demons, vampires, zombies and angels are not blatantly visible or understandable to humans, although there is some belief in these beings through religion and in a surreal life that is lived in the minds of the disturbed. What if these beliefs were real? What if there was a reality parallel to our own that harbored, not only humans, but also every mythical creature imaginable? There is no what if; this reality exists and not only in your mind. Creatures only once thought imagined roam the streets, devouring corpses, hunting the living, seeking nothing more then the pleasure achieved from ripping a human to shreds. This is the world of Amaitus.

Amaitus was once a peaceful planet nestled in a dual star system. Everything was running to the best of standards, species interacting amicably with one another. This all fell apart on one fateful night. A drilling crew hit a vein of crude which had housed an ancient evil. An evil that had plagued the planet centuries before. An evil that nearly wiped out all life on the planet. An evil, that if not dealt with, will destroy the planet. An evil now named 'The Dread.'
The Dread is a disease. It feeds off of corpses, but the amount of natural deaths is no longer enough to satisfy its appetite. This is what has spurred it into action, deadly action. Infesting the brain of its chosen victim, it searches the psyche to find any fears of the individual and brings them to life. This allows the creature to generate seemingly natural deaths, leaving little to be found of its existence.
Lore has been written of The Dread. The simple continued presence of any living being on the planet ensured this. Most life thinks The Dread is just a fairytale from a long lost civilization. However, A man by the name of Lament Otium knew these tales to be true. He spread his knowledge to those who would listen in order to for a resistance group, the Sacred Hearts. Lament's first-hand experience in dealing with The Dread has given the S.H. invaluable insight. After Lament fell into illness and eventual death, the S.H. has been a bit of a mess. It took the initiative of another, Alice Vence, to pull it back together. Their mission is to lock The Dread into confinement once again, before the worlds population is decimated. If they fail...Amaitus...is doomed...

The forces of Sacred Hearts are on their last leg. The Dread has largely reduced the population of Amaitus, leaving only one city standing against it. Selestia, the only bastion of hope for the entire planet. You are a part of Sacred Hearts, fighting at the forefront of a battle that somehow remains unbeknowst to almost all survivors, who deem it a simple plague. The government explains away all the deaths to keep panic from the streets. Little is known within the city about any of the happenings throughout the nation, or the world. The citizens are kept in a bubble.
Working in secret, Alice leads the Sacred Hearts from their headquarters, located in a tavern on the lower levels of the city. Individuals from every race are a part of S.H. Everything from vampires to angels have come to protect the last of the living.
