Definitions and semantics are flexible, but you still understand my point. Either way, you still seem to be doing the same thing; implying that people who want to engage in aspects of another culture are by default being disrespectful unless one goes out of the way to find out who gave them permission to do so. As if culture should be some exclusive secret club.

Except it was not originally with permission. The "permission" was merely some Maori not being uptight assholes about it. I've looked at the definition of cultural appropriation again and it appears to include both negative and positive connotations of adopting aspects of other cultures. So I suppose I should rephrase the point I'm trying to make. SJWs tend to always label any cultur ...

The difference is that it's almost a matter of copyright rather than actual ownership. Many Maori don't want the rest of the world doing poi dancing, and yet we do it anyway. It's a skill and art form. It's a medium of motion and expression that means different things to different people. Or perhaps to some it means nothing but proof of one's own dexterity. Either way the art shouldn't be ...

It was only my dad who ever hit me as a child, and every time he did it was for things that I didn't even do. I was a perfect little angel and he never believed me.

Ah, kk. I recently saw an introduction on Fur Affinity by a Raz, and he never answered whether he was the same one I know from the Sonic fangaming community. xP

Fur Squared 2015: my first furry convention 19 Lifestyle Discussion 7/23/14 7:24am

I only plan on going to Anthrocon or Fur the 'More, but cons are generally similar. Follow the 6-2-1 rule (get at least 6 hours of sleep, 2 good meals, and 1 shower each day), respect the convention center and hotel, don't haggle with dealers, be careful with fursuiters and their expensive costumes, and don't let any social anxieties get in your way. The furry community feels a lot like extended ...

This is part of what I'm getting at. This is to suggest that the only value a culture has is whether or not a person grew up in it, and that it has no intrinsic value. Some people are just interested in aspects of other cultures. Even if some individuals may be misguided, is there something so wrong with that?

I've read one of them before, and I doubt there's any new information in the others I haven't already read. Good humour is an important thing in life. If someone isn't outright trying to be racist or something, they should be humoured. I find it facepalmingly petty when I'm called a weaboo despite actually being part Japanese.

Admittedly I don't live there so I can't know the situation there. But it still sounds petty as ********. It's like saying Taco Bell's existence is condescending.

I will say that Europe has a nasty history of imperialism and colonialism and perhaps that's a lot of what white American culture is. But this is even more reason for white people to embrace other cultures rather than simply humouring or outright disregarding them.

Funny how nobody complains about the Great Taika, when Japan literally copied everything they saw China doing, but with their own twist to it. And ignoring parts they didn't like, like footbinding. And I never see anything more about ganguro girls than eyerolling. Also funny how people said Filthy Frank's Harlem Shake video was another example of whites appropriating black culture, when everyth ...

That's what I get a fair bit. I'm told that I'm kind of ambiguous but people generally lump me into white because I literally glow in UV light and have a large nose, qq. And then they assume all I know is white American culture, and it feels like I never quite fit in.
