Well Now I Know Why Gaia Has Been Throwing Gold at Me 0 Spirit of the Summer 8/20/14 6:17am

I was curious about the gold winnings of tens of thousands in the daily chance lately, but now everything costs a ridiculous amount to do anything in this event!

I can understand that, but I don't really know what I'm doing, so I'd like someone who might know a little more to tell me if my book sounds interesting, because of course I think it sounds interesting.

Does anyone know sites I can get this done? I have a couple of drafts I've written up for a novel, but I've never had to send a query letter out before, and I really don't want to screw it up. I already know about query shark, but does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Did I use this word correctly? 3 Writers 12/6/13 9:55am
XxMelody_Cutie...
It might be the lack of context, but while you may have used despondent correctly, it sounds really, really weird, and it does have a bizarre implication here. And despondent is not a synonym for desperate. That's the danger of thesauruses: if you don't know the meanings and connotations of the words listed, you're probably making your writing worse by subbing different words in (because they w ...

I'm not really understanding what you need. How is using this any different from any other sources? You're using the criticism to make a point about the character, right?

How much can you write in an hour? .__. 26 Writers 12/16/13 4:00am

How much can I write, or how much should I? I've managed over 700 words in 10 minutes, which implies I can do about 4,200 in an hour if I tried, but they probably wouldn't be very good words, and my wrists would be killing me afterward. Realistically, I've probably done half of that.

Consensual Incest portrayed as Normal 20 Writers 12/1/13 5:01am
Aethership Canon
I thought of Ursula Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness. It featured an alien culture perfectly okay with incest until children were produced from the union, at which point the relationship had to stop. One of the main characters was in love with their sibling, and it was portrayed as totally normal. The book had a lot of problems, but being squeamish about the incest wasn't really one of them.

What does you use for a character sheet? 15 Writers 11/24/13 7:27am

Sometimes I keep one, and sometimes I don't. It depends on what ended up relevant to the story and what didn't. I put a lot of physical description in mine, because I tend to forget that more than I do character traits.

You learnt...what? Who says romances have to end happily? As for genres: genres are defined by the conventions used in it. If you honestly don't know what it is, write it first, and then google lists of genre conventions and figure out what your story has. Crossovers happen. That said, until you're marketing or trying to sell the thing, it doesn't matter so much.

Writing stories for magazines 7 Writers 11/12/13 5:41am
XMegantronX
Most magazines don't publish fiction because that's aren't what they're for. Literary journals (or lit mags, I suppose) are for creative writing. And honestly, I don't know that they would want kid's stuff, either. If you're really interested in the drawing side, perhaps you could try sending comics?

Suggestions? 11 Writers 1/9/14 11:07pm
Night Kunoichi
Skip it and come back later? I've done similar things, where I truncate a chapter because I want to get on with the story, and come back and write it later. This usually happens when I'm sick of a chapter, want to write something else, or the chapter simply won't let me write it. But on editing: editing and revision are words used interchangeably sometimes.
