Which drawing tablet do you use? 4 Art Discussion 11/24/14 4:03am
cockodiles
I have an Intuos 4 Medium at home. Medium is a good size. I find large a bit too large and small a bit too small. At the school studio's I use the cintiq's which are great, and I'm planning on getting one myself when I have the money, but I'll be going into the field. So if you're looking for something to try out and casually use, the Intuos or Bamboo should do the trick for you.

I'm looking for some kind of art mentor 9 Art Discussion 11/23/14 3:37am

First of all, I'd like to direct you to a nice reference Tumblr. It's got some pretty interesting stuff on there. I would check out the animals/monster sections for anatomy, structure and movement along with the human anatomy sections. Definitely take a look at structure. It will help create a more solid drawing. From there, I would reference life a lot. This makes your art more natural and experi ...

I use Youtube a lot for movement and technique references. A lot of people film spars and upload them. I'd definitely try youtube. You not only can find the pose, but feel and see the movement in the pose. :) It's much more dynamic than someone just striking a pose for a pose book.

Hands. I really like drawing hands. They're my go to thing when I don't know what to draw or if I'm having a tough time drawing something.

I'm still trying to figure out my style... 13 Art Discussion 10/30/14 8:29pm

Your style is something you're always going to be looking for for a long time. I'm in my last year of college and many of us are still figuring things out and trying new things. Even those in the industry still play around with what their style is. So don't stress out about it. Practice a lot and study anatomy, form, and volume and your style will eventually fall into place.

How would I get more people to commission me? 4 Art Discussion 9/17/14 2:20am

Firstly, I just wanna put it out there because it seems like it's a problem, employers should not need to know that you have a disability and they have no right to ask. That's part of your rights. I don't know what type of disability you have nor am I gonna ask, but if it's not going to affect your working ability then it shouldn't honestly be a problem. That being said, if you need some kind of a ...

Someone used one of my pictures I created back in 2005 for the same reason and did the same thing to it. Glittery font and all that crap. I only found out about it a couple years ago. I don't care enough to do anything about it, since it is so old now. But for you, it depends on how far you want to go to get it taken down. you could always shoot them an e-mail or a PM and see if they respond and ...

Shortened to address this specifically. If you want to do storyboarding and you are good at it, DO STORYBOARDING! Nothing can stop you! ALWAYS have multiple portfolios and multiple demo reels. Tailor them to each company you are applying for specifically. If you're applying for an animation job, don't show 80% layout, 20% animation. Make animation dominate. Likewise, if you are applyin ...

For Graphite drawings, I use an electric eraser. Man the thing works wonders. Like any eraser though, it is harder to erase when you start to use 5B and 6B's though. For sketching, it's great. Of course, the whiter you want something to be, it's probably better to either plan ahead and leave the paper for white, or find a thick white pen or paint that will do the trick. Someone mentioned Frisket ...

Is A Wacom Cintiq Really Worth It? 6 Art Discussion 8/7/14 7:55pm

If you're doing art as a hobby, I wouldn't get one. If you're going professional and your Intuos isn't doing it for you and money is not a problem, then go for it. My campus studio is filled with them (the larger ones) and they are great to use, but they get VERY hot sometimes. A friend of mine actually got a heat rash from it, so be careful about that. I also find my hand sticks to it because it ...

I don't do commissions here anymore. I never made much here when I did do them (70k for a full body colour? I don't think so) and now the prices are so whacked out, I don't even know what's fair anymore. I'm tempted to try a couple, but with my internship during the summer and my thesis film during the school year, I don't have much free time of my own. Even some of the people in the freebies sect ...

Digital Art Question: Easy. 13 Art Discussion 6/7/14 11:20pm

I usually work on an 8.5x11 canvas at 300 DPI and crop from there depending on what I need. My lines always come out too dark so I set my tablet pressure to firm in the Wacom Tablet Properties. It helps my line out a bit. Most of the time, my hands are shaky, so if it's too visible in Photoshop I switch to Sai to do my lines.
