With this, first off, please abandon any further claims that you get your information only from the Bible; with this post, you confess with your actions that you get your information from young earth creationist interpretation, and specifically Kent Hovind. -- 1. Belimah, the word translated nothing here, is unique to this passage - the book of Job tends to attract them. Thus, while it cou ...

Let's take a look at the references to dragons that we have. The word translated dragon in KJV is tannyn; this is used in a variety of ways, including: -As a type of sea creature (Genesis 1) -As a serpent (Exodus 7, Aaron's sticks-to-snakes duel with the sorcerers) -As a poisonous serpent (Deuteronomy 32) -As some creature poetically paired with owls (occurs in Job 30, and in Isaiah 34) ...

These should be easy. 1. Apparently human protagonist is empowered by embracing an inner non-human aspect, travels the world and the underworld, encounters nobles and rogues, gets some advice from a member of the aspect's race, and ultimately fights a powerful member of that same race in a completely different world. 2. Turn random encounters into powerful weapons, fight crime, save the wo ...

As described in John 1, the spirit of Jesus is the Logos, the spoken word - which, in Genesis 1, is the means by which God creates. I see it as different from the spirit of God; and that the oneness described by Jesus in John 14 etc. is a oneness of purpose, much as it is in the synoptics - not necessary a oneness of entity. Now as far as Romans 9, this is where the Calvinists get their do ...

Core rulebooks are great at compensating for low-impact unarmed strikes. I was in a group before this one where a guy refused to make basic characters, so the DM was constantly party-wiping us trying to compensate. He was lawful good, always, but would screw over his own party members by keeping loot for himself that would benefit them. If I were the DM, he'd be neutral evil, but I'd allow h ...

The account of the baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3) contains that: "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:" -Jesus would use the Holy Spirit and fire as tools of baptism. "And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: ...

If you reject the doctrine of the Trinity, it's fine, and I'll withdraw my objection to that. :3nod: But if you do accept the Trinity, then it's not possible to argue that the spirit of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, are the same - that's confusion of substance. I think what you mean is your sect decided what the text and teaching was, instead of the teaching speaking for itself. Is this cor ...

Paraphrasing. You are making the claim that the actual meaning of scripture is incomprehensible to those who don't have the Holy Spirit. And there is no functional difference between the separation of spiritual and natural discernment, and Thieves Cant or similar secret languages. The words are English, but outsiders can't understand what's really being said. Where the comparison to myster ...

The fancy term is parsimonious. But here's the problem. Parsimony means striving to find the hypothesis that best balances simplicity and sufficiency. Simplicity refers to having the minimal number of steps, while excluding black boxes - proposals that are neither supported by evidence nor axiomatic. Sufficiency refers to how completely the hypothesis describes its referent. So in our ...

What you believe is a mystery cult, then; because you are asserting that your book is written in a secret language that resembles English, but is incomprehensible without knowing a secret code only known to insiders. The secret code, in your case, is the Holy Spirit. It is true, the spirit of man does make interpretations, such as yourself. The spirit of man will always make interpretations ...

Choose to believe, choose to adhere, same semantic distinction as faith and doctrine; you don't get to criticise people for not understanding how you are using words, while also criticising people for the words they are using. That said, once again, the Holy Spirit gives the revelation; the doctrine is how that revelation is interpreted by man. This can be readily proven by how many differen ...

The Holy Spirit is not the faith; within your perspective, this is what I meant by "the source of the revelation is not a doctrine." Now, you can say that the Holy Spirit transforms the soul, with an effect similar to brainwashing - and that without this, the person cannot choose to believe... ...in other words, "the people do not decide the faith"... ...but then you are reducing Christ ...

"The people do not decide the faith." This is wrong, as doctrine is simply codified belief - and it is codified by people (generally priests,) not by itself. You can say that the people are inspired and/or had a revelation; but they are the ones interpreting it and codifying it as they understand it. (Just to be sure, the source of the revelation is not a doctrine!) "The faith decides th ...

It's not so much that. If I can try to rephrase the question: For some reason, I want to get involved in a game set in a high school where many of the students have superpowers (eg, X-Men Evolution, Sky High, Smallville, Railgun, etc.) I have several game systems to choose from, and can help the GM add skills relevant to a school setting. Gray Ran wants you to sell your engine considerin ...

AA seems to be suggesting that all that's needed to understand the Christian answer is divine fiat. No background information, no theology, no apologetics, just a flick of a Bic from the third subset of God. Unfortunately, without much or any seeking an answer, people assume almost if by definition that creation cannot be a good model. Thus it is not looked into. Creationism can't be a good ...
