The Moral Implications of the Catholic Abuse Scandal 30 Morality and Religion 7/8/14 6:01am

I'm aware of that. Then Paul came along and flipped that table (1 Corinthians 12; also Ephesians 4.) Also in Matthew 18:15-19 it mentions that if a brother has sinned against you, go to them, and only if he refuses to listen go to the church with your matters While Matthew 5 says that if you are bringing a sacrifice and know that someone is holding something against you, that you should go ...

I left it out on purpose, since it didn't fit what I was going for: examples of unnecessary / wrong targeting in the application of divine smoting, rather than excessive force / creativity in smoting valid targets. Summon Bully-Slaying Bears is an example of the latter.

The Moral Implications of the Catholic Abuse Scandal 30 Morality and Religion 7/8/14 6:01am

It's rooted in John 20, wherein Jesus gave his disciples the power to forgive sins, or bind them upon the sinner. Similar to how they claim that the Pope is the successor of Peter (per Matthew 16,) priests are similarly seen as the successors to the disciples, and thus inherit this power. So yes, Catholics believe that priests do have the power of absolution. (So do Lutherans with respect t ...

Is the modern West one the least Christian places on Earth? 19 Morality and Religion 6/14/14 1:40pm
randomuser2349
The problem is that Christianity as a practice is supposed to be almost ascetic, with even self-ruinous levels of charity encouraged, and most secular attachments (even to family) eschewed in favour of the Great Work and looking "beyond the horizon" to the Home on the other side. In other words, all those juicy "do this and you do well" type things that Jesus talked about in the synoptics. As ...

If I might. First off, if such things are what the biblical god considers worthy of death, then It can kill Itself. It's described as being VERY angry, jealous, a killer of many (and his mercy endureth forever,) absolutely petty, and willing to suppress free will just so It can show off Its god mode powers. (Why not suppress free will and just have Pharaoh let the Hebrews go? Far less death ...

Sye VS Matt. 16 Morality and Religion 6/5/14 1:40pm
MonickerPenis
In Sye's mind, it does. Or, more specifically, not being certain in your knowledge about one thing means that you cannot know anything. That's the real trick: he equates knowledge with certainty, and then gets you to admit uncertainty, thus (in his mind) forcing you to admit that your knowledge is not justified and therefore isn't knowledge. After that, he brings in his own stripped-down ...

Sye VS Matt. 16 Morality and Religion 6/5/14 1:40pm

Basically, yes. Welcome to Sye's mantra. Basically: -You could be wrong about something you know; -Therefore you could be wrong about anything you know; -Therefore you could be wrong about EVERTHING you know; -Therefore you cannot know anything... -...unless an omniscient Something is available to reveal things to you. -Checkmate, you god-suppressing worldview-thief. -No, checkmate, ...

Arcoon's analysis is excellent. Here's just a few more thoughts. This is honestly a very difficult issue. We do not fully understand why God would command such a thing, but at the same time we trust God that He is just – and recognize that we are incapable of fully understanding a sovereign, infinite, and eternal God. sk: "You'll never understand. Just clap your hands and believe and obe ...

Summon Bully-Slaying Bears requires four levels in the prestige class Prophet of Yah, and the caster's own bald head as a divine focus. That's why Elisha was able to cast it. :3nod:

Aspects of Videogames That Annoy You? 40 Gaming Discussion 5/28/14 5:19am

I just wanted to joke about the horse armour, since female human armour is a rather well-known cliche. ( For a better image, try looking up "I am starting to question my choice of attire." :3nod: )

And just what's wrong with that armour? I mean, the spiky studs might be unnecessary for barding, but the horse's protection is just fine. :P If I had to pick only one thing that peeves me: friendly AI. Seriously, whoever wrote the tactical AI engine has heard of enfilade, and thinks that it is tactically appropriate to align itself with you and the enemy in it. (If the word confuses you: ...

Hey now. The Ghost Bears absorbed Rasalhague and thus became a society of family-friendly Space Vikings. There's something to be said for that. Also, forgive its 90s graphics as a matter of state of the art at the time; but please deny that this is badass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9hWuUn6kN0 "Neg, base... I need units NOW! They'd have to be pretty staunch conservatives among the Clans to call a heated scrap between two freebirths dezgra. After all, they're already using Cicadas - whelp toys against which an average Elemental Point might consider bidding down to one trooper to challenge. :3nod:
