Amen! I don't fake it. I just don't have it, and when he asks me if I did....I say yes. I know! It's horrible! But it's actually a guilt thing. I just can't bring myself to hurt his feelings! Personally, I think he knows anyway. He usually looks at me for a moment, and then looks down at the ground defeated.

Discrimination Against Women (or: Why I am a Feminist) 10,654 Extended Discussion 12/29/12 7:28am
lumnata
Just going to jump in here and this is related to the "She asked for it" excuse posts (which is a lousy excuse). Many women who are raped aren't women at all. They are girls, who are usually sexually molested by people they trust. Did they really ask for that? Did they get dressed in short skirt and get drunk at a club?

Is it wrong to eat people? An objective look at cannibalism. 77 Extended Discussion 3/9/10 5:30am

I haven't posted on Gaia on a looong time, but it's nice to see an interesting topic. The problem is that this criteria actually reverses your question a bit. Aren't you trying to understand cannibalism objectively, as if it were a regular tradition, and not provoked by incredible circumstances? To answer your question, personally I could never bring myself to eat another person. I think ...

Bettie Page Rest In Peace 10 Entertainment Discussion 12/13/08 4:53am
miidasu
In the news article, it said she had mentioned that no one wants to remember celebrities in their old age, but young and such. There is one photo of her in her 80's though. Anywho, not only did she live a life as a hermit, she actually became a born again Christian. Then she had a nervous breakdown after the failure of her third marriage and somehow ended up in a hospital. Very sad, and sh ...

May she rest in peace. She lived a long, full life, with a lot of hardships.

( I don't know where else to do this so if its in the wrong forum just tell me.) I'm surprised not to see a thread like this already. This year we have lost many of our beloved cultural icons. Heath Ledger, Bernie Mac, Brad Renfro, and others. Last night, Bettie Page, beloved pin up model and icon, passed away. We will remember you Bettie, for your beauty and bravery during a time when women ...

Cant We All Just Give (Greed and America) 140 Extended Discussion 12/20/08 9:05pm
What Happened To LSD
Interestingly enough, that varies by region. In Europe, people are reproducing under the necessary rate to sustain the population, and will probably be facing a problem of too many jobs in the future. Just a little bit of knowledge from Cultural Geography class...Um...the only source I have for that is a textbook (and lecture notes)...The Human Mosaic by Terry G. Jordan-Bychkov et al. Edit: ...

An Anthropological Question 43 Extended Discussion 12/11/08 6:36pm
Mick Centauri
Oh yay! I just had my final today in Med Anthro and violence was a major part. Before you go on and say human nature, I suggest you consider the larger cultural aspects. I find myself agreeing more and more with the concept of structural violence. I believe that violence stems from these larger social, historical, economic, and political structures that are set within society. For example, ...

What is gender? Are there really only 2 true genders? 259 Extended Discussion 12/18/08 7:08am
Kirowyn Love
I am going to graduate with a BA in Anthropology next semester and I can personally tell you they will continue to reiterate this for the rest of your college career (if you're in Anthropology and particularly if you have feminist teachers). I have heard it over and over again. Gender is not the same thing as sex. Gender is a social construct that pertains to the roles people are expected to pl ...

Rape Of Nanking 104 Extended Discussion 1/31/09 11:12pm

I don't know if this is the same unit, but we had an American survivor of one of these Japanese camps come into our class one day. Anywho, supposedly they also created slits in the backs of their prisoners, slid glass tubes (?) in there, and then smashed it to bits while it was still in their bodies. Gruesome stuff. Anyhow, this is by word of mouth (from a supposed survivor of the Death Mar ...

For my love...I am going to attempt to ignore how hot the guy in the video is...even though it's a pointless video. For me...he is like super eye candy. But my habibi treats me well...and so I turn off the video and avoid any possible fantasies...

I agree with you for the most part...but I DO NOT agree with your first little arrow there. Electing a president should not be based on race. In fact, these "minorities" didn't see color or religion while they voted. They saw policy and that is how it should be. I respect those "minorities" who were brave enough to vote in what they believed rather than what society expected them to. An ...

Barack Obonga is going to decriminalize marijuana 83 Chatterbox 12/21/08 11:21pm
Ted Haggard
There are positive and negative uses to marijuana. It can be helpful to deal with illnesses, but like any drug, if it is abused it can lead to problems. For instance, I certainly wouldn't want to drive with a friend who is high. But then again, decriminalizing it would also eliminate drug dealing associated with that. I mean, it's not going to stop drug trafficking completely, and there are wo ...
