So what do you think? 2 Comic Creators 7/26/14 4:10pm

Plenty of comics have chapters that are regularly 40+ pages, the 22-page "norm" is common in weekly manga and monthly American comics, while longer chapters are common in graphic novels and monthly manga. Don't worry about chapter length if you're not working with a publisher's requirements! Make your comic as long as the story needs to be, and split the story up into chapters where such a split ...

Question About Manga Studio Debut 4. 1 Comic Creators 7/26/14 4:07pm

This is normal, but can be changed. The default B&W mode is designed for working for print, the pixelated lines allow the image to be printed very sharply. If you work at resolutions suitable for print, it shouldn't be noticeable that it's pixelated once the work is seen at its final size. If you want smooth lines (such as if you're not working for print, or plan to colour your pages so the shar ...

So is this a comic or an illustrated novel? I was going to direct you to the Promotions forum, but it looks like you have an identical thread there already. Are you looking for critique? What is the purpose of this thread?

Manga Artist Needed!! 5 Comic Creators 7/26/14 7:35am

Please don't bump so frequently, this is a slow-moving forum. You probably wouldn't need to bump more than once a week here. Bumping so much makes you look ignorant of how this forum works, which gives people a bad impression of you, which in turn makes them less inclined to work with you. ...as does the content of your first post, for that matter. You've provided no information about the plot, ...

So much for them trying to do anything against inflation! On the bright side, I guess this is akin to a salary raise, something to help keep up with the inflation a little.

Does anyone here know where I can get some two-sided transparent bookmarks printed? Or single-sided, for that matter. The kind that are a transparent sheet of thin plastic with a design printed on. Usually the design is white on the other side, but I'd love to have it so that instead of white, there's some colours on the back side, if that's even possible. Another thing I've wondered, are printed ...

How/Where can I find an artist? 6 Comic Creators 7/18/14 1:27am

Thought I'd chime in about this part: If an artist needs someone else to do the concept art for them, I'd be wary about their skill level. There is no way a concept artist can foresee every single design that the comic might need (this is most often a failure on the part of management though, not the concept artist's fault), and the concept artist cannot anticipate the way their designs will tr ...

best place for ads on webcomic site 2 Comic Creators 6/25/14 10:21pm

Above the fold, meaning the viewer shouldn't have to scroll to see them. This makes the ad space more enticing to advertisers. However, they should also be placed in a way that doesn't push your actual content below the fold, since you don't want to scare away or confuse your readers. If you have ads above your comic page, then most of the comic page should still be visible without scrolling, w ...

If this is an issue you run into more than a few times in your comic, you should reconsider writing this story as a comic. Comics are a predominantly visual medium, with text there to convey what the images cannot, not the other way around. Perhaps your story might be stronger as an illustrated prose piece, or in some other medium that's not primarily visual? Might have to just restructure th ...

The bolded part is false, but the rest is generally true. dA is in fact a useful site for getting your work out there and getting commissions, even with all its problems. dA has tools for dealing with art theft, but it can't "protect" your rights any more than a random person on the street can. dA is notorious for letting art theft go unchecked, although their track record is slightly better ...

Experiment by drawing thumbnails of each page. There's no hard rule that says how much is too much or too little, it all depends on what you're trying to convey. When drawing your thumbnails, don't just do them a page at a time, draw them a scene or even a chapter/issue at a time, so that you can be sure the pages work together. Aside from experimentation, another helpful thing to do is look at ...

There is not a large source of short stories that I know of, but I'm sure even general manga sites have anthologies and the like. Try searching for "anthology" or "short stories". If you like horror: Fuan no Tane (aka Seeds of Anxiety) should be easy to find, and if you look up Junji Ito, you'll probably find his shorts alongside his longer stories. Sleep of Reason is a horror anthology orga ...

How to draw smooth lines with photoshop - Lazy Nezumi 2 Comic Creators 6/1/14 1:12am

This is a neat program, especially now that it has some extra features to modify the shape of your strokes in unusual ways. However, I must caution against using it if you feel you need it because your own lines are too jittery. Using a tool like this like a crutch will keep you from improving your stroke quality and economy, which will hurt your artistic development even if it allows you to ma ...
