Hello everyone. I'm sorry to report that my computer is out of commision. I'm not sure when I'll be able to get it fixed or replaced, but I apologize for the affect this will have on my ability to participate in the group. I can still communicate through pm's, but my access to a computer is currently limited so I'm afraid I'll have to hold off on future critique exchanges until further notice. ...

By the way, if you ever want an easy way to introduce the antagonist, have him kill someone and laugh about it. Instant evil. Bonus points if it's one of his own guys since killing a good person or animal might hurt the reader's delicate sensibilities.

Of course! True love is instant, after all. As soon as their eyes meet and their hearts go all aflutter, your work is done. By the way, make sure every couple has a romantic theme song. Who cares if it's a book - just put up a message in parathesis or bold or something in the middle of a romantic scene and tell the reader to look up the song on youtube real quick before reading the next pa ...

Everyone who is likable must hook up in the end and later be married. All the bad guys or mean people must remain depressingly single or in and out of relationships without ever finding their twu luv.

I think the punctuation definitely helped. ^.^ Thank you for taking the time to fix that for us and for holding such a positive attitude towards the feedback. The only other things I saw was the missing apostrophe in "natures" in the third stanza (should be "nature's" since it's a possessive form) and I think you meant " angel's " or " angels' " in the fourth stanza (if it's more than one ange ...

best writing advice? 11 Writers 1/20/15 8:02pm

"Open your mind." The best advice I've ever been given is to be open to the world around me and the possibilities therein. There is almost never only one answer to a question or issue. Things aren't always what they seem. Ideas are a dime a dozen if you just take the time to look around and think. Look deeper in life and you'll find all kinds of useful things to use for your writing.

Great! We'd probably get along well then. ^.^ My hang up is how someone critiques. For example, I'm also an artist, and one time someone told me that the person I drew "looked ugly." That was their honest blunt opinion, but it wasn't helpful at all. One can be professional and kind in their critique without sugar coating it. It just takes tact. Had that person said "I feel like the ...

I'm afraid I'm not so familiar with poetry either. However, I did have a bit of trouble grasping the flow of the piece. I also felt that you were trying to force rhyme in places, which may be the cause of the flow issue, but I might be misreading it. Have you tried reading it out loud to yourself? I find that I catch a lot of mistakes when I read it out loud to myself compared to reading silently, ...

It's an understandable mistake. Role-play IS writing; you aren't wrong about that. But it's so popular here on Gaia that it needed it's own forum. Otherwise this forum would probably be flooded with nothing but role-play topics. This is why the rules state that role-play threads aren't allowed in here, even though it is a form of writing. However! Threads about improving your role-play writing ...

Do you know how the story will end? If you figure that out, you'll have some direction to head in when you get stuck. You can also think about what you've already written - maybe fix it up a bit and brainstorm ideas from previous events and characters. You might find a plot hole that needs filling or questions within the story that still need answering.

Sorry, buddy, but Turnilk is right. Role plays go in Barton Town. Barton Town is the role-play community - it's not just for role-plays having to do with Barton Town. The Writers Main Forum is for discussing the craft of writing and asking for help. The writing sub-forums are for showing off work for critique, discussing specific writing-related topics such as books, making contests, etc. None ...

Because rejection is lethal, of course! Once you are rejected, there is no getting over it. There are no second chances, no new romances, no being happy ever again. Everyone automatically knows when someone is rejected and will think s/he is a loser. Once rejected, a person will be single forever. Even seasons adults know this and should act as such in the story.

Especially if the character spills it in front of a crush. That is as traumatic as an experience can get and your character should immediately run away home crying before falling into a deep, dark, self-hating, depression until the Best Friend or the crush come over to console her. Oh, just like if you ever want to make your character sound deep, just make them spout off poetry and quo ...
