There are lot of absurdist comics out there with great execution... Amazing Screw-On Head, Grant Morrison's run on Doom Patrol, Shaolin Cowboy, Madman (which was lifted wholesale, neutered, defanged, and plagiarized into Freakazoid)... but I actually have a hard time thinking up comics with concepts that initially repelled me that I later ended up liking. If we can tell what your favorite cartoon is just by reading the plot of your own efforts, that is a bad, bad sign. Why should I read your rehash, when I can just watch Inuyasha and get the good stuff straight from the source? Accept no imitations, that's what I say. I letter by hand. I use Hunt extra-fine bowl points, #512, and Speedball ink. For effect lettering (emphasis, SFX), I use Micron Pigmas, sharpies, and whatever else looks right. Bad handwriting is not a reason to avoid hand-lettering. Lettering isn't writing; it's drawing words. I don't write my notes or sign my checks the same way I letter comics.
