I think the other thread could have been taken generally enough that it would not warrant this repeat. :|

Hmmn. Why is it that those who are qualified to start threads of this sort are almost never the ones who do it? Maybe because there's something about becoming qualified that makes one less likely to post this sort of thing. Whoops. There I go answering my own questions.

"These are the best years of my life!" he keeps telling me. He says that no matter how many times I tell him "but it's not your life, it's your death!" "Life, death, tomato, tomahto ..." He's a smug b*****d, but he knows his words. But yeah, it doesn't look like the hauntings are going to increase in number any time soon.

I don't think you know what hypocritical means, or you wouldn't be using it here. Don't worry, lots of people have this problem, mostly because "you're a hypocrite" is so galling and hard to refute that it makes a really "neat" verbal attack. However, please visit Mr. Noah Webster's Ghost to discover the true meaning of the word.

The stuff that is unsuitable for you may be quite suitable for others. If you don't like it, don't buy it and don't read it. But don't try to keep others from reading it. That would be asinine. Let's assume for the moment that you have a Bible fetish. There are plenty of people who believe that reading the Bible is harmful to people of your age. Does that mean it's okay to make the Bible illega ...

Because that would be insufficiently dramatic. "Life is not a soap opera, and mores the pity."

The trouble with the "depression helps my writing" myth is that real depression causes the victim to not want to do anything, and not enjoy anything. What some people like to call "angst" leads to writing,* but depression does not. *Contrary to popular opinion, angst isn't an actual emotion. It is an annoying type of expression of a certain subset of emotions. To elucidate, it is glorified, sel ...

I didn't feel it was necessary since all I said was that I hated it very much so. I didn't say I thought it was to grammar what Satan is to Christians, I just said that I didn't like it. :xp: And the psychology and expression of writing is not limited solely to those things that will cause confusion. :whee:

Ahhhh, now I see where you misunderstand me. I'm talking about the psychology of writing, not the written-in-stone rules. There is nothing grammatically wrong with using "to," "two," and "too" all in the same sentence. However, for psychological and comprehension reasons, one shouldn't. Communication doesn't merely consist of rules. It involves a certain expressive art. That's where I'm coming ...

No, I hate funner because it sounds willfully and stubbornly unintelligent, unlike "verbed" which sounds playful and hence can be tolerated.
