Slow Gaia to protest the new net neutrality law 22 Site Feedback 9/12/14 9:15pm
xSahri
That's it in a nutshell, though to clarify: it is not actually a law. The issue in question is being handled by a branch of the government called the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is part of the executive branch, which only executes/enforces the laws passed by the legislative branch. Theoretically, the FCC is in charge of regulating (or at least trying to look like it does) c ...

A possible solution to inflation 6 Site Feedback 8/25/14 7:21am

They've already made gold RIGs. They can be found in Loyal's shop, though whether they've released one with exclusives instead of recolors I don't know. I've long since stopped paying attention to item releases because gaia doesn't care about masculine items beyond token releases, is largely incapable of doing scifi well, and I have no interest in recolors of frilly/lacy lolita clothes.

It definitely won't be an easy fix, I agree. I imagine the least painful approach would be to just start with a new currency and run them in tandem while all the primary features are toggled over. People could still use their gold to buy/sell/trade, and maybe even purchase it in the CS, but all onsite activity would eventually only grant the new currency. This would provide a window during which ...

Impractical Pricing 8 Site Feedback 8/23/14 11:02pm

It's not so much that users are unable to math as they're unwilling to. Gaia banks on the fact that, much of the time, items are impulse purchased, which precludes a willingness to do the math, and the ease with which the items can be bought makes it much easier to purchase on impulse. You can see the outcome here, I'm sure. It's an ethically dodgy practice, but it's quite common with online ...

Nowhere did I say get rid of the items people have purchased. I also pointed out the value of items and the value of gold is almost completely decoupled with the way they've tanked the economy over the last year, so focusing on the gold value of your items doesn't make a lot of sense. Under a new currency system, the items would retain the same value relative to each other. It's only the currency ...

This isn't the thread for this discussion, as there's more than enough of them elsewhere to beat this dead horse, so I'm going to answer this and be done with this particular topic. No, gaia hasn't had management as blatantly indifferent to the user experience as it currently has, but it has had plenty of management before that's pursued the user base as nothing but a source of revenue rather ...

I doubt their intent with the recent reprieve from selling gold was to stop doing so, considering the gold generators have been so profitable for them. It's far more likely that they pulled them as a response to the almost universal negative reception the community has for them, and they're attempting to rebrand them to make them more palatable. This is a standard business tactic, and also a ver ...

Oh, they care, because it's what provides their paychecks. The question is whether or not they care enough to fix the problem they created and start turning around the exodus of users by doing so.

I'm not going to belabor the whole hyperinflation issue being the fault of whatever poor decision making process led to thinking selling gold would be a good idea. There's been plenty of threads about that, both here in SF and over in GCD, and there's no sense in repeating what they've done well in explaining. Instead, I'd like to point to a solution. Specifically, how Brazil solved its hyperin ...
