A lot of that stuff, like the blood drinking, was just an embellishment. The Germans stuck with Hungary when it came to slandering Vlad and an infamous German pamphlet describing a very exaggerated and negative depiction of his life circulated quite a bit. Of course he would be very off putting from a modern standpoint, but we can't look at him through that lens. In the time he lived, he was ...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech_laws_in_France I particularly love the sophisticated legal wisdom in that phrase, 'in fact or in fancy'. The French are certainly a cultivated and enlightened people. This is just getting stupid. You know what part of that quote I like? The whole thing, especially the part that comes after your favorite part: "Those laws protect individuals and ...

Quite the contrary, I love vampires. Vampires are fascinating folkloric entities and I very much enjoy those works of fiction that respect that folkloric source in some way. I am, however, annoyed with people who believe they are vampires. And they are not vampires. Because vampires don't exist.

I have to be a stickler here. I apologize in advance if any of this comes off as rude or arrogant, it's not my intention. Vlad III Dracula, aka Vlad the Impaler, wasn't really the inspiration for Count Dracula. Bram Stoker's novel was nearly finished before he'd even heard of the real Dracula, and even then, Bram's source had very little information on him, and as a result very little ...

It's nice to know you're running out of ammunition. Once again your analogy falls apart, however, because belief in the folkloric vampire is still popular in rural areas of Eastern Europe, and this belief hasn't really changed. Also, you assume that the belief in folkloric witches doesn't persist either. You're not a very knowledgeable person on these matters, so please stop pretending you ar ...

1) It's not the medieval meaning of the word. It's the present meaning of the word. "Vampire" is still used to describe the folkloric creature (or its fictitious counterpart) 99.99999% of the time. Heck, in rural parts of Eastern Europe, the belief in vampires never died out. 2) 1725 isn't even the medieval period, and right here in the United States they were believed in as relatively recent ...

No, because in fact it only aids in my counter-argument. The word itself is not the source of controversy in that case. When it comes to vampires, the word "vampire" is in fact the source of controversy, because vampires genuinely do not exist. I was merely making a comparison, to show how weak your arguments were regarding vampirism. They are not 'my' arguments, but yours. Didn't you not ...

Being a vampire is impossible because vampires do not exist. It is scientifically impossible for such a creature to exist in the real world. Here's the thing: even if people are born with the need to drink blood (and they're not, certainly in a physical sense) or absorb energy (and they're not, period) that doesn't automatically make them vampires. Really, it's amazing how your post, and o ...

Except drinking blood doesn't automatically make you a vampire any more than it automatically makes you a mosquito or a leech. It's a term that's being culturally misappropriated with a helping hand from wildly irreverent depictions of the vampire myth in pop culture, depictions which suggest that the state of being a vampire is somehow an attractive idea. These people want all the allure of ...
