I think age is important. At seventeen, I realize that all my old stuff I thought was brilliant was thesaurus bullshit. Even now, there's so much to grow...*sigh* That being said, there are always exceptions. I just believe that you can do a better and more thorough job when you've seen and experienced more.

I like this. But I wonder if your short story is finished? The last paragraph is meant to keep it open-ended, but it sincerely sounds unfinished. And it's even worse when religion -- who's base value, as understood by an atheist, is to breed love -- is brought into the mix. Still reading about Inarte. Love the little b*****d to death. ;3

The "true evil villain" is boring, because he's simply there to provide some conflict. In my perspective, it doesn't matter if they're a male, female, boastful, or wimpy. I think that the cruelest of evils stem from the purest of intentions. Hitler was a vegetarian. Something to think about, isn't it?

You poor thing. Now on to the topic, I would agree that it all has to do with tense. You'll have to do it in present tense for it to seem even plausible, then when they're killed or being killed you can switch to third person perspective or draw out their death and keep it in first.
