I can't give you any definite answer on this subject but I can say that going outside the norm can be a good thing. On the other hand it can be bad too. Just do what you think fits like a dark, musty forgotten ruin of a temple shouldn't have super upbeat music. There's a site called guitarlessons.com. It's entirely free and very useful. They have beginners, intermediate, and advanced lessons. Be sure to start at the beginner level and work your way up.
