If this is your first cosplay, it might be easiest to start with a pony. You'll be able to create the costume yourself, and there'll be less pressure on trying to figure out weird designs and wigs and sizes and shoes. Otherwise, pick whichever character you'll have the most fun acting as, or series where you really want to meet other fans. :D

You'd make a great Ichigo! I can also see you as an excellent Ukitake. As far as contacts go, unless you're doing, say, Hollow Ichigo, I don't think it'd matter much. Many cosplayers I know can't wear contacts at all, and that has never been a big deal in deciding characters.

Aura from .Hack// Lacus Clyne from Gundam Aurora from Sleeping Beauty Flonne from Disgaea Claves from Eternal Sonata (depending on the shade of wigs.) Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle (Silver/white hair) Euphemia from Code Geass (though the wig will probably require extensions for her bun things. And I suppose it is halfway CLAMP. I haven't watched any MLP, but that sounds marvelous. But looking up the character, it'd be cute if you found a way to incorporate the three diamonds she has on her too. :) As far as characters go, it was like that for me for Madoka. I've ordered from random ebay sellers, cosplay.com, and I've bought wigs secondhand (off of cosplay.com's marketplace, but I believe the wig was from an ebay store). All of them are excellent wigs--I'm particularly partial to one ebay wig I got for Honey from Ouran. It was $12 after shipping, and was perfect for the character. Tekkonkinkreet ftw. That would be amazing. Some other simple movie-anime cosplays are Paprika from Paprika, and Makoto from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Also, you could look at characters from Ghibli movies as well--their designs are pretty simple, but the characters are super recognizable (though not overcosplayed): Shizuku from Whisper of the Heart, Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service, Pazu ...

Well, one thing to be aware of when buying a cosplay, is it might be slow shipping, since many places try to custom-size it to fit you. And from my experience, many Asian sellers take about a month to actually ship. So, depending on where you're getting it from, it could be best that you order it sooner than later--it might not even arrive until October. Even if it does get to you much earlier, ...
