And in fight scenes, always make references to movies, like "he bent over backwards in slow motion to dodge bullets like Neo in The Matrix", or to manga/anime, like "And then she charged up her chakra and slammed it into him just like Naruto's rasengan attack".

It's possible, just make sure you keep it interesting and related with each other, plus add in lots of pauses so that you're not suffocating people with your page long mess.

((Tee hee. :xp: )) NO. They're just big slabs of steel that get heated up and hit with a hammer a few times. Haven't you watched ANY movie with a blacksmith in it? Oh, and it takes no skill at all to make a sword. Again, you just heat it up and hit it with a hammer. A weapon that breaks and is re-forged never looks ugly or cobbled together, and certainly won't suffer from it. No sirree, that magic sword will still be the loyal, stable thing it was after shattering into a bazillion pieces and made into a new sword.

And regeneration isn't icky either. Never will it be like they sprout bone first, then muscle knits itself together over it and blood is everywhere because blood vessels haven't closed up yet, and there won't be really gross noises or smells or anything at all.

Well, a way to have him come off as depressed instead of wangsty is that most people with real depression don't parade it in front of people by wearing dark clothing and having long, misery-filled monologues about how miserable their life is.
