Hard to claim you understood perfectly well when I had to correct you. Maybe you're just annoyed that I mentioned the comprehension contradiction? See, I can make up motives for you, too!
Never said you need a profound understanding of the English language, just that you need to understand enough to play with it. BRB wasn't an example of playing with language, but an abbreviation.Verbing noun ...

I don't consider the abbreviations all that different, except some are new and some are old. There are many cases where they are inappropriate, but that is a different issue and has more to do with what the abbreviations mean, rather than the fact that they are 'unacceptable abbreviations'.
I could certainly accept someone writing, in a piece on parliamentary politics, something like "And a ...

It's cute how you complain that those you graded have no comprehension of how language works, when you seem to lack comprehension of what I've said. Implied in my post was that I agree that such people don't 'know how the language works before playing with it' and made explicit that I find such an argument to be empty because those who complain in that manner don't play with the language in that ...

Hehe.
Oh, also something I didn't notice before: I'm a he, not a she.
Also also, while never having argued with this one before, I've been in enough threads on gaia and elsewhere with types like this to know that it's pointless to get in any real discussions with them, though in this instance my 'No?' was because I was asked for a source, while the whole post was quoted, so I have no idea wh ...

Nah, you're just an idiot who can't delete the non-relevant parts of a post when asking for sources.

Misandry really isn't that common. Yeah, it exists, and there's those hilarious 'lesbian separatists' of the 70's who called for sex war, the killing of all men and heterosexual women as sex-traitors, and the pathetic 'lesbian separatists' of today who just only deal with women and avoid any and all contact, social, institutional, and professional, with men. But as a genuine social phenomenon? Nev ...

Gotta love people whinging about 'institutionalized informality' in the form of people using abbreviations of the sort 'brb' 'np' 'lol' and so on. That's stupid, we do it already, e.g. SPQR? OK? AD2000? 44bc? RADAR? QED
What I love about language right now is the great number of these things, as well as the verbing of everything (see, I just verbed verb!), including such abbreviations: "I lol'd ...

Trollolololololololololol fail
I actually won't say much about this because the whole thing is pretty absurd.
For ease of clicking, I'll link their press release HERE.
Will the failure of these billboards mean anything? Probably not. They didn't achieve anything but a failed attempt at trolling, but the recall is only an issue of tactics within the denial it's camp, and doesn't mean the ...

No, that's stupid. Capitalism is an economic formation characterised by private property in capital, capital being goods and money invested to make more money, requiring a population of workers who own no capital or means of subsistence and are forced to sell their capacity to perform work. Owners of capital are therefore called capitalist.
One may say that capitalism works best when there is ...

Srsly, why does everyone bring up these weird definitions of capitalism? At its bottom, capitalism is a socio-economic formation characterised by private property in capital. Capital is money and goods invested to make more money, either in the basic form of merchant capital (buy something cheap, sell it dear, use the profits to buy more, and start over again) or through investing in production wh ...

@OP
That argument isn't ignored so much among conservatives, however now most people agree (conservatives, liberals, and those on the left) that it simply won't happen. Women simply won't be forced back into the kitchen, they say. I disagree with this, and think that it is entirely possible that it can happen. I don't think it will happen soon, though, for a simple reason: having women in the wor ...
