What do you believe in? :O 134 Morality and Religion 2/6/12 6:56pm

God incarnate (the universe, humanity, etc.) currently exists in a fallen state. First we must perfect ourselves, which is a process of self-discovery. But the further point is for all of the incarnations to work together in a harmonious whole, which is a process of knowing the perfection of God in other ways. God as Illiezeulette, God as Illiezeulette's mother, God as Illiezeulette's house ...

The difference being, knowledge by way of coming out of ignorance (what we are in), and knowledge by association with other complete parts (optimal state of self-examination). It's more like, exploring what God is not, and then exploring what God is.

Book of Shadows for a Non-Wiccan? 56 Morality and Religion 4/3/12 9:32pm
Cobalt Illusion
You might not call it a Book of Shadows, but having a written place to store all of the things you'd like is nothing that belongs to Wiccans specifically. Grimoires, sacred texts, rituals, musings, poems, spells, incantations, etc. have been collected and written down for millennia.

Friendly Question for Religious EDers 20 Chatterbox 12/22/11 8:22am
Of Or Pertaining To Axiom
Primarily information received in visions, spiritual ecstasy, and dreams that I've been able to confirm in the mundane world through experimentation or checking the facts.

Definitely Christianity. While it is losing favor in the West, the Global South is rapidly becoming very Christian.

Do you belong to a more specific denomination? Just curious.

I always find the "what do you believe in" question to be somewhat problematic. For a lot of people, it's more about what they practice, not what they believe. *steps off soapbox* I believe that existence is God and that anything that exists is an incarnation of God in some manner or other. The "created" world/universe is God undergoing the process of self-examination, done via manifesta ...

New Age Spirituality 20 Morality and Religion 12/29/11 10:49pm

"New Age" is a group of new religious movements, not a religion unto itself. There is no unifying praxis or belief, though we can point at some general characteristics that can be considered New Age.

Let's not make sweeping generalizations about theists, now. People do things for a variety of motivations. Many theists I know do good things because they believe God demands it of them, or they do it because they know it makes God happy and they're happy to do it because they love God and love to make God happy. Whether they get into Heaven or Hell or Purgatory is entirely irrelevant, ...

It can. I meant "institution" as a sort of established, recognized thing, and while I acknowledge that "institution" can and does often imply "public," it is not necessarily so.

Wine is the only non-vegan thing I ever consume. (: It's so weird to me that your friend had such a hard time of it... even when only considering processed foods that you can get on your average supermarket shelves, there's more than enough. I have a totally easy time meeting my nutritional requirements and still thoroughly enjoying what I'm eating. Planning meals in advance seems natu ...

I'd like to hear your perspective on this argument, since it is one I have contemplated (alongside the others). What is the value of arguing against the appropriation of "Wicca" by those who are not properly lineaged, properly initiated persons? Is it an argument of principle only, an interpretation of the oath to protect and maintain the faith, or something else? What do you mean b ...
