It's hard when I don't know what you like, but I can suggest that for a first cosplay, it's easy to look for something simple. Not necessarily ~generic schoolgirl simple~, but something that you can most likely find a lot of parts to at a Goodwill (which is usually what I do for my cosplays/costumes).
Otherwise it gets a little harder, because you have to either sew something yourself, or buy s ...

So, I've never tried to sew my own cosplay before, and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips/suggestions that could help me out. I'm planning on trying to pull off Wallace/Mikuri of Pokémon:
