I'd venture to guess that the underlying cause is something to do with competition. You can't exactly go out and hunt a mammoth anymore, so you have to figure out who's alpha of the group in other ways. Also, testing your limits. I don't know what to put in the text box above that, because it's all in Japanese. (Tumblr auto-locates you and forces the page into the native language.
