Intro/Index.

Welcome to our little experiment everyone.

Though as we do not yet have a proper/permanent name for this little thread of ours it's going to keep changing.

Good ideas may also get us to change its name.

Which brings us onto our next point.

What is this thread about?

Simple, language.

As a newbie in a new MMO, we've found it hard time and time again to quickly find out about what some users are talking about when they shorten specific words and phrases.

Think of this thread as a dictionary.

Keeping tabs on the ever growing vocabulary of zOMG.

Anything can be abbreviated to allow players a quicker way of communicating.

So we plan to keep a wondrous little list of terms that become common in zOMG.

We also hope to have you, the players, help us with this epic task.

So, what are you waiting for?

Let us begin.

Rules.

Everywhere needs rules, in here in no exception.

1. Follow the ToS.
2. Follow the ToS.
3. Please keep discussion to topics relevant to zOMG.
4. What we define as rule breaking, will be reported.
5. We run by a three strikes you're out rule.
6. Trolls will be dealt with in the appropriate manner. (See rule 4)
7. Page stretching, harassment, abuse etc is not welcome. (Again, see rule 4)
8. For the love of god, do not flood our PM box, we loathe that.
9. Reading our first two posts is nigh on a must.
10. You do not talk about Beta.
11. You do NOT talk about Beta.

Info

A) To begin, we'll explain the search system.

It's rather common, but some people may not know how to use it.

Since this front page may become very long, we've decided that we'll be using a coding system to allow people to quickly jump to the section that they want.

As you've no doubt already noticed in the index, next to each section we have bracketed several numbers and a full stop.

Example: (0##.)

To search for a section you wish to find, simply press Ctrl+F and type in the number code and full stop at the end.

Hit 'Next' and bingo, you'll be at the section you wanted.

Easy, no?

B) Onto people submitting entries for our little dictionary.

There's going to be a few rules for this as well.

1. Post it in the thread.
2. Make a small sentence to show how it should be used and in what situation, description helps also.
3. If you didn't coin the term yourself, please tell us who did. A screencap ingame or a link to the forums is helpful in this aspect. We LOATHE people trying to take credit for others ideas. It's called theft after all.
4. If we like your word and description, we shall put it up.
5. If we don't like it, please don't be offended that we don't put it up.
6. Don't worry if your word doesn't show up right away, it may take some time for us to recheck back through pages of the thread we've missed.
7. We reserve the right to take artistic license with the description of any words we add to the list.

C) F.A.Q's about this thread:

None as of yet.

Check back, or go ahead and ask us a few.

D) And do not forget, this topic is about discussing zOMG as well as keeping tabs on its growth.

Discussions

So the major points of discussion should be:

How do you think the language of zOMG will grow after its full release?

How fast do you expect new words to be born?

And how fast do you think these new words will integrate into use inside the zOMG world?

Sorry to say. We're afraid it's terminal.

No. -A - B
(001.)

+ 104 - An error in the zOMG server. A common occurrence during early testing of the game. A bane to all trying to test.
"Quoth the server: '104'."

+ AFK - Generic term meaning 'Away from keyboard.'

+ Agro - Normally used in the phrase 'pull agro'. Once a player attacks an Animated, that Animated will become aggressive towards that player. Certain Animated automatically Agro a player when any Animated near them is attacked or if a player gets too close to them. The more damage done to an Animated, the more agro a player garners from that Animated. Though Medics tend to garner the most Agro without ever attacking an Animated.

+ Airshark - And you thought a freight train with teeth was bad news. Airshark first gained attention during the 2009 April Fools event, created by users to confuse and further bewilder newer players that had no concept of an April fools joke on Gaia. Due to this, when the random mini-events were created, Airshark was born properly. It now enjoys raining explosives and giftboxes upon Barton for twenty minute intervals.

+ Animated - The bane of zOMG. The Animated are objects that have been infused with Ghi energy and have been granted a kind of pseudo-life. Not all enemies in zOMG are Animated, though all do seem to be effected by Ghi energy in some way, shape or form.

+ AoE - "Area of Effect." A term describing an attack or action that covers an area rather than aiming for a single target.
"A good AoE ring is great for C.C."

+ BL - Shorthand for Bloodlust. The final battle within the DMS instance.

+ Boss[es] - zOMG has ten Bosses. Not all of these bosses are in an instance. All of them are tough and most require a crew to take them down. A boss tends to be defined by an NPC asking you to take down said Boss, and offering you a ring reward for doing so.

+ Brb - Generic term meaning 'Be right back.'

+ Broken - General 'gamer' slang for something that is overpowered. - "Dervish has always been broken."

+ BU - Shorthand for "Back Up." A role filled in a DMS crew to back up the tank should it be needed.

+ BUBU The shorthand for "Back Up Back Up." A roll in a DMS crew to back up the back up should the back up need back up.

+ Buff - The term for any effect used by a player to increase any of their stats for a short period of time. "Meat is a great buff!~"

+ Bug - Any part of a game that doesn't work as it was intended to.
"The 104 bug has killed more Gaians than the Landshark." - Ryau

+ Cap (C.L) - A C.L cap is put in place on all instance areas, mini-events and chests. So higher C.L players cannot swoop in and steal rewards or easily waltz through boss fights.
"You could never kill the OMGWTF in one hit, even at C.L 10."

+ Chest - A 'pseudo mini-event.' A chest contains gold, items and orbs but only release these to players that take part in killing the specific monsters that spawn around and guard said chest. Chests are scattered all over zOMG.

+ DC - The abbreviation of Daily Chance. Daily Chance is handed out in each zone of zOMG by the Barton Regulars. Prizes involve gold, loot and other items.

+ DC'ed (or just DC) - Stands for "Disconnected". Users use it when their computer loses an internet connection.
"Sorry guys, I got DC'ed"

+ Defib - Shortened term for the ring Defibrillate. Used to return a player from Dazed status. Also commonly spammed by newer players wandering around in higher C.L areas.

+ Div - Shorthand for the ring Divinity.

+ DMP - The shortened term for 'Dead Mans Pass.'

+ DMS - The shortened term for 'Dead Mans Shadow.' An instance inside the Dead Mans Pass instance (Instance-seption) which allows players to gain Shadow Orbs and raise their overall level to the new cap of 12.

+ DMSF - The shortened term for 'Dead Mans Shadow Farming.' The range of farming is at the crew leaders discretion.

+ DMSS - Short for 'Dead Mans Shadow Speed.' The crew hopes to go as deep into the DMS as possible as fast as possible. A specialist style of crew.

+ DoT - A shortened term for 'Damage over Time'. The better a rings DoT, the more damage it can dish out. "Hot Foot has great DoT!"

+ DPH - A shortened term for 'Damage Per Hit.' Somewhat different to DPS.

+ DPS - A shortened term for 'Damage Per Second'. Used to denote the average damage a ring can do within a certain time.

+ DS - The shorthand term for the instance boss Duneneslam. Mainly used when asking to complete the relative quest or farm him for orbs.

"If you use an exploit, you'll most likely be banned." - Ryau

+ Fail-Whale - A nickname for the ring Heavy Water Balloon.

+ Instance - Areas of the game set aside for specific boss encounters such as Duneslam or OMGWTF. Each instance is separate for each user, so it is never overcrowded inside the instance. + Improb - Shorthand for the ring Improbability Sphere.
