Welcome to zOMG!'s Ideas Repository! This is intended to be a collection of the various suggestions and ideas posted throughout the zOMG! Forum, for the purpose of avoiding repeat threads, housing discussion over those ideas that have no other home, and simply for posterity. In short, this is the unofficial discussion thread for every idea that lacks an "official" discussion thread.

Due to the nature of the thread, I will aim to avoid bias when including ideas, but I will explicitly exclude any ideas covered in the Frequently Mentioned Issues thread, unless those ideas contain specifics on how they could be implemented. Additionally, any suggestions related to Soulbinding will be ignored, as it has been stated by the developers that all such discussion is moot.

To submit either a new idea or a currently existing thread for inclusion, feel free to post here or to PM me directly. I recognise that the threads and ideas listed on this page will likely be anything but comprehensive; I will make an effort to compile those suggestions manually, but often I will rely just as much on the ideas that are actually presented here. As I said before, any ideas that fit the criteria should warrant inclusion, but I'll reserve the right to the final decision over whether a suggestion is "appropriate". Y'know, just in case. wink

Finally, to cover what posts are acceptable here: any presentation or discussion of ideas or suggestions related to zOMG! are acceptable here. This includes anything from discussions of new rings, new areas, or new features. Any new suggestions are applicable, as is the exploration of any older suggestions. Anything not related to zOMG!, or not discussing new or altered features, belongs elsewhere.

Perhaps the single-most suggested addition to the game, in various unique forms, are the addition of more ring options. Some of the more common suggestions have appeared under various authors, whereas others are truly unique. Some of the most common suggestions include:

Life Drain - A ring that deals damage to your enemy, returning some portion to the user as Health.
Stamina Increase - Either a Stamina "heal", or increase in maximum Stamina.
Cooldown Decrease - A ring that either shortens the cooldown time of other rings, or makes them available immediately.
"Cursed" Rings - Rings that offer greater benefit in exchange for some penalty.
Mind Control - A ring that would cause enemies to attack each other, either in a state of confusion or through outright manipulation.
Teleportation or Stealth - Both ways to primarily avoid animated and make travel easier. Often, these are also suggested as Powerups.
"Rare" Rings - Many suggestions include a ring being rare or exclusive, usually as an excuse for increased power. Currently, all rings share an equal drop rate, excluding event-exclusive rings like Sweetheart, Fortune's Favor, and Sugar Rush.
Elemental Rings - Adding a system of "elements" to the rings, allowing rings of an appropriate type to be more or less effective against enemies of an opposing type, is a particularly popular suggestion. Often, this includes both elementalising existing rings (like Fire Rain) and adding new rings to round out the proposed "elements".
Damage Shields - Ring effects that deal damage to enemies as the user is attacked. Similar in nature to Reflection, but generally without the ability to actually prevent damage.
Ring Fusion - We all love the rings we have, but wouldn't we love them more if we compressed them together? Proposals to achieve just that - merging unique rings to obtain combination effects - are relatively common.

No discussion of common suggestions would get far without a mention of Player v. Player (commonly abbreviated "PvP" ) content. Before getting into any discussion on the possiblities of PvP content, some important notes:

  • According to the developers, this is a desired feature. What that means is that, if they could, they would implement it. Due to constraints on resources, however, it has yet to come to fruition. (Reference)
  • The concerns that many players have about PvP are recognised by the developers. They have stated that, if and when PvP is implemented, it will most likely take place exclusively in an Arena setting. That "Arena" will most likely be the Barton Coliseum, though the Coliseum will not feature PvP upon release. (Reference)

Having covered those key points, I open this thread to discussion on the subject. Since it is lacking an official home, I expect this thread to be an "unofficial" haven for PvP discussion. Any significant, unique, or impressive PvP suggestions will be included in this post.

Pets and companion items remain some of the most popular items on Gaia; as such, it is no surprise that the idea of utilising a pet-based feature in zOMG! is an extremely common suggestion. The practicality and appearance of these pets varies significantly from suggestion to suggestion. Common ones include:

Animated as Pets - These allow you to utilise enemies as allies, often by "capturing" or crafting them. Ring-oriented version share considerable overlap with the common Mind Control ring suggestion, described above.
Pet Items as Pets - Often one of the more purely aesthetic suggestions, these generally suggest that companions and pets be able to follow you in game, though specific uses vary. The 2010 Easter Event chicks following players through the Village Greens is the nearest in-game implementation we've had to a "Pet System" thus far.
Summon Rings - These would allow you to "summon", or conjure allies from nothing, using specialised rings. Plans for "Summon Rings" have been discussed mysteriously by the developers, though many unrelated-but-similar suggestions still appear.

UPDATE!
zOMG! Buddies have been released! Any and all ideas pertaining to Buddies will be included here.

Everyone has their favourite animated; except, of course, those whose favourite has yet to be implemented. Suggestions for new enemies are common, and they come in the form of both top-down designs (fitting an ability to a established concept) and bottom-up creations (fitting a concept to an established ability). Common enemy suggestions include:

Normal Enemies:
Fluffs - Often, these accompany suggestions for new areas. Nearly every area of zOMG! had some kind of Fluff, and it's reasonable to assume that pattern will continue.

Bosses:
Force of Nature - Significant discussion has spawned over a natural disaster/storm-based boss.
Mirror Enemies - Enemies that imitate or impersonate your character and crewmembers are a popular suggestion.
"-sharks" - Following in the tradition of the Landshark, Airshark, and Lawnshark events (Okay, so Landshark isn't technically an event), numerous suggestions utilise the "-shark" moniker to denote power or aggression.

The world of Gaia offers much more to explore than the areas we are confined to in zOMG!. This has led to a lot of speculation as to what those areas may contain. Some of those suggestions include:

Other Towns - Be it Durem, Aekea, or Isle de Gambino, one of the single-most common requests is to allow access to the other towns of the Gaian world. Currently, developers are expanding northward, with Buccaneer Boardwalk and Isle de Gambino already in the works.
"Sky City" - Partially fueled by a particularly cruel April Fools' joke, the suggestion of a "city-in-the-sky" has been a recurring one. Often it is inhabited by weather-related enemies (see Fluffs, above), and requires some unique form of flight (commonly by airship, specialised ring, or more ambitiously, equippable wings) to reach it.
Ninja Village - The hints at a tribe of ninjas living just outside Zen Gardens has given rise to plenty of wide-eyed speculation from ninja enthusiasts throughout zOMG!. Often, this locale is suggested to mirror or interact with Buccaneer Boardwalk.
The "House on the Hill" - The manor at the end of Dead Man's Pass is a compelling concept, resting just out of reach of the common Gaian. That, combined with tantalising screenshots of developers outside the house have supplied plenty of fuel for speculation.
Ice/Snow Area - Ranging from mountaintops to the North Pole, the concept of a snow-covered landscape in zOMG! is a common one.
Outer Space - zOMG!'s... Final frontier. Be it the Zurg, the Hive, or the P3s, players routinely request the opportunity to leave this planet behind, and reach for the stars.

Story progression and a sense of accomplishment are key elements to any game, and zOMG! is no exception. These suggestions propose new "achievements" for players, particularly:

Quests:
Picking Sides - Quests or quest chains that require you to pick one of many competing groups to assist. A popular example is the Ninjas v. Pirates idea, often detailing a conflict between the Hidden Ninja Village and Buccaneer Boardwalk.

Badges:
More Kill Badges - From badges for overlooked enemies to badges for defeating bosses, these suggestions simply involve a reward for doing what you'd be doing regardless: punishin' the bad guys.

From localised events and mini-games, to full-blown Holiday extravaganzas, these are some of the features that add a hint of unpredictability to zOMG!; this added bit of fun catches the interest of a number of users. New events and games are a relatively common suggestion. Often included:

Events:
Free-Roaming Bosses - While not necessarily always an event, the idea of releasing bosses to wreak havoc among unsuspecting Gaians is a popular one. Often this suggestion accompanies suggestions for new bosses, though occasionally it is applied to existing bosses, either as an alternative or addition to the instanced versions.
More Holiday Rings - Sweetheart and Fortune's Favor seem to have been a hit among users, and suggestions for rings to accompany Halloween and Christmas events are particularly common.

Mini-Games:
The Fountain Game and Goof - These games were removed due to technical issues. A common suggestion (particularly among badge-seekers and nostalgists) is to return these games, either with or without the intended "fixes".
Dunk-a-Dev - Originally a Buccaneer Boardwalk minigame suggestion, this and similar ideas have become particularly popular among forumgoers. Original credit goes to Sensual Soul.

zOMG!'s own "Cash Shop" (Back Alley Bargains) has inspired its fair share of user ideas. The majority of these require Gaia Cash, though some suggestions include powerups being found in-game.

Cash Exclusive Rings - Following in the pattern introduced by Sweetheart, many ring suggestions suggest rings be Cash-exclusive. Often, this is used as similarly to the Rare Rings suggestion, above.
Lure and Repel - Items used to manipulate enemies' aggression are often suggested as powerups, though this does overlap with the popular Stealth ring suggestions.
Teleports - These often allow the user to teleport to or from the Null Chamber with ease, allowing easier changing and upgrading of rings without disrupting play.
Double-Gold - As a mirror to the Double-Orb powerup, a powerup that allows users to spend Cash for extra gold in-game is an extremely common suggestion.
Re-release Sweetheart - New players are often put-off by the exclusivity of the Sweetheart ring, for which one common suggestion is to re-release it. It should be noted that the developers have stated they find this an unattractive option, but that it is still a possibility.
Rings for Cash - Some users (often those frustrated by the attemtpt to find that last ring) have suggested that the 40 in-game rings be obtainable from the Cash Shop, to make collection completion easier.
Unsoulbinding for Cash - Being an "unsoulbinding" topic, this suggestion would not warrant inclusion if it had not been posited by a developer. Due to community feedback, however, it seems unlikely that it will be implemented.

Suggestions to make the user interface more welcoming, intuitive, and functional are relatively common. Some of the most popular are:

Crew Pane - Either shrinking the Crew Pane, or simply giving the option to do so, is a very common suggestion. Often, this suggestion would allow players to "turn off" the character images.
Buff Duration Indicators - Often in a similar form to the Cooldown animations, one common suggestion is for the buffs in the Crew pane to indicate their remaining duration, or to indicate when they are nearly expired.
Stamina Panting - Making the low Stamina indicator (a "panting" sound) mutable, or removing/replacing it completely is a common suggestion. Previously, developers have polled users for an alternative, though the results were inconclusive.
New Tutorial - Suggestions to fix/replace the currently uninformative tutorial section of the game, or to return to the old version of it, are popular. The developers have stated that this is currently in-the-works.
New Emotes - New ways for users to express themselves, with common ideas ranging from an "AFK" emote to the oft-requested "Pirate" emote. Similarly, the concept of emotes for enemies has been posited by developers.
Text Colors - The ability for users to change the color of their own chat messages or usernames. Currently, the text colour depends on which "group" the message is being delivered to, and only developers have uniquely coloured names.
Day/Night Toggle - zOMG! has an active-timed day/night system; however, with things being naturally more difficult to see "at night", some users have requested the ability to toggle that system.
Notices In-Game - Having a pane or alert system for mainsite "Notices", as used in the My Gaia page, to keep from alienating zOMG! users from the forums, PMs, etc.
Enemy Chat Toggle - For those enemies that like to chat (particularly prevalent in the Sawmill), granting them their own division for chat, so that it can be toggled independently of normal Talk.
In-game Friendslist - Being able to see which friends are conncected to a zOMG! Server, which Server they are connected to, and possibly relevant stats like CL and location while in-game.
Item Images in Recipes Pane - Before working on gathering the materials for a new recipe, many users would be interested in seeing what it is. A simple and effective addition would be item images included in the Recipes pane.
