Said file's not on my computer and I'm a regular zOMG player.

It's likely that either your antivirus is not catching the entirety of the bug (it happens), or more likely that something in your computer is infected but outside the scope of the cleaner and is reinfecting you.
im confused confused
He means your antivirus didn't work.
so why isnt it working?

That would be a question to ask of the people who made it.

If the virus were coming from Gaia, there would be *tens of thousands* of complaints on the Gaian forums and a similar level here. There aren't. If it were a zOMG based install, I and many others here would have it. We don't.

I really think that either your Antivirus is missing infected files, or you have something else that you're doing that downloads the virus without your knowing it - a password keeper, "internet helper" or something is a REALLY good place to look for that. Any browser add-ons not from major, MAJOR companies is also a good thing to look for.

Try this if you know how:

Update your AV to the latest patch. Set your firewall to "notify me if any program tries to access" - notice, ANY program - even trusted ones. Unplug the cable from the wall, shut off your connection to the router, whatever it takes to 100% disconnect from the internet.

Once you're 100% offline and isolated, run your antivirus and clean out the problem - make sure you go into your AV settings and verify that you are checking ALL files and not excluding any directories, folders or file types. Then once clean, start acting like you're going about your regular useage, but write down *every single time* that something tries to access the internet. Once you've tried everything and have the substantial list that this creates, start working your way down the list to find what's trying to download new things. Then go research them to find out if they're supposed to be doing that or not.

If you're not knowledgeable enough to do that on your machine, then there's not much that I can recommend to help you other than having someone who *is* there with you.

I'm sorry but I do have the top of the line in Virus protection, my job makes sure of it. I work with other people accounts, as in their money. My firm put the best on our PCs / laptops and I was using a laptop that the government supplied to use for a job when I got this exploit / virus. No I wasn't at work and yes I asked if it was okay for me to play on it on my own time, which it was as long as I wasn't downloading anything. I did not play any other games on there and only went to Gaia and zOMG outside of my work sites and my work email, all scanned regularly. So this exploit was from either Firefox or Gaia / zOMG. I did get it off my PC if it was ever on there to begin with, I think it wasn't but I did get a warning, and had the tec. dept. check to make sure it was clear. I also do not plan on using my work PC or Laptop to go to Gaia again since it doesn't seem to be a "safe site" after all. =/ All I need is for some virus to screw up my work.

So do I believe that you can get virus / exploiting malware from Gaia? I do indeed think it could happen. Why doesn't everyone get it then? I have no idea.

That's a good point. I'm just using Avast and it's free. Maybe the trojan is there, but my free AV just couldn't see it.

Then again, I had Norton and McAfee fail miserably on me.

I run Norton regularly and have sent my PC through Panda once or twice just to backstop Norton. Haven't seen the issue at all.

I don't think Gaia or Firefox had anything to do with the virus. Both Gaia and Firefox are reputable sites.

I doubt it came from zOMG. It even says when you start.

ive read that gaia gives off a harmless tracking cookie. i could confirm this, because i do virus scans too, i remove it, then it comes back once i go on gaia again

Please BUMP my thread when im glowing. heart

Sorry but Norton misses about half of the know virus and trojan. And I don't know where else it would of come from. I have never used that laptop for anything but work and it is check on a regular basic. I only used this time on Gaia because I was out of town and my own laptop was dead, battier need charging. Oh and FYI, I've had a virus try to get in to my home PC from Gaia, or an ad I click on accident on Gaia before this. I have all ads blocked on my own PCs but not on the work one, since I don't normally use it for playing. Could it have come from an ad? I don't think I clicked one but I could of without noticing.

Anyways, talking to a dev and he tells me that

"a swf file is a flash animation file
stands for 'ShockWave Flash' "

And like I said it was checked, no virus found at all. I wonder, OP do you have AVG by any chance?

Ok -- your virus scanners are freaking out. Don't worry, we did not put a trojan in the game. It sounds like some of the code in the game resembles a vulnerability in Flash 6 & 7.

Is anybody running Flash 6 or 7 any more? No. So lets not worry about this. Quite frankly, a virus writer would have to be stupid to target flash 6 or 7 since it hardly exists any more. Flash 8 or better installs are at 99.7%:

Everybody here is probably running flash 9 or better and has nothing to worry about.

What do you do to play the game? Hrm.. I do not want you to disable your virus scanner. Perhaps it is best to wait for the upcoming Halloween update? Or to write friendly emails to your virus software providers. wink

Thank you halzy, put my mind at rest to know it's not anything to worry about! <3 Still my favorite dev. wink

What antivirus are you using anyway? Have you tried AVG, Avast or some other free ones and see if they can pick off the trojan?

Since this is now more of a technical matter, why don't you ask the guys over here for some advice?
