is there a quick way to earn orbs/what monsters give you orbs.

All animated drop orbs, but instances (boss battles) give the highest orb payouts. 3nodding

If you're playing for the first time though. I'd recommend not focusing too much on grinding for orbs as most of the main quests are level dependent, so just go along with the pace of each quest. Unless it gets too hard in which case you can stay behind and level up a bit.

Highest level in zOMG atm (and most likely forever) is 12.0

It's not that hard to get to 10.0 (Which is as far you can get with just regular Charge Orbs).
Just a little bit of dedication and a few hours spent everday and you can get to 10 in a week or two.

Getting to 12.0 requires you entering Deadman's Shadow. This is a special high level area only for 10.0+ people.
Before you go in there, it's suggested you get all 40 z! rings and make them 10.0.

Farming is a nice quick way to level up ;3
But I suggest doing all the quests.
