Quick question. Won't take you any time at all, promise.
There are 24 pre-school children riding to School on a yellow school bus. 3 of the children speak English, 9 speak Spanish,, 2 speak Farsi, 3 speak Swahili, 4 prefer pig Latin, and 5 only grunt.
6 children are healthy today, 4 have undiagnosed head lice, 7 have Strep Throat, 2 have Mono, 5 have common colds and one has a rare form of schizophrenia causing him to persist in trying to leap out of the bus.
11 of the children have siblings that belong in 4 different rival gangs, 8 live in homes where only one parent is present, 3 live under the viaduct, 6 live in communes and 3 live on a TV set with 4 other ehtnically and sexually diverse young people where they are constantly prodded to have stress and controversy in order to improve ratings. 1 student lives with both his biological mother and father.
Your task is to arrange seating on the bus so that the English speaking students will be challenged to learn a second language spoken by more than 3% of the U.S. population or of a country currently scheming to bring down American Capitalism, and who is likely not named Gus, insuring that those who have highly communicable diseases will be far enough away from those who have non-communicable disease so as to minimize the chances of a world pandemic while being careful not to place any of the students from rival gangs in seats next to children, of rival gangs currently involved in turf wars, or where they might possibly feel inferior if their home and socioeconomic situation might be considered by the judgmental dominant culture to be inferior in some way or who most likely have a crack addiction from birth. Be sure and place any student who might become agitated or deranged in a seat surrounded by other students who are most likely to provide a barrier to any window.
You have 2 minutes, begin now.
