When you target the animated, do they appear green to you?
If not, change your level to theirs.
Make sure you have luck rings too.
RR4 Coyote Spirit, Fortunes Favor, Fitness, and the Angel Set which is Healing Halo, Wish, Solar Rays, and Hunter's Bow.
Make sure to get in a large crew.
Having 100 Ghi also benefits your luck.
Replenish lost Ghi by:
Staying in Barton Town, staying in a six-man crew, or hanging out with a lot of people.

I only have one crew member. I'm level 1.7 because my other friend had told me to do so.
I don't remember what color the circle around them was...
Also, I don't have any luck rings, or any of that snazzy stuff yet.. >w<

If you're in a crew with someone whose level is too high, then you won't get any gold or orbs or anything. Just make sure your CL is close to the CL of the stuff you're fighting
