Maybe. It's a normal monster.
RING boxes on the other hand, {always} give one {or more} CL 1.0 ring.

RIngboxes are an extremely rare spawn in Bass'ken. It looks just like a Giftbox, and has most of the deadliness of one, but the name is different and it travels alone.
Giftboxes... well, lets just say they should have left their Debuff abilities until AFTER people are going to be swarming Bass'ken when the Night Patrol is out. *shudders* How many times have I died to that herd of boxes? *too many*

Count the Shadows.
For the Libraries sake,
Count the shadows.
Cosplaying Grace Scuridae from El Goonish Shive. Look it up.

Other differences, as far as I know:
Ring boxes travel alone, one only. They go further down in Bassken, near the entrance to Barton, and they can be fought by anyone of any CL.
Gift boxes travel in packs called "the Night Patrol", they generally stay north of the main path intersection (where it branches off to the Null and Logan), and you have to be CL 5 or under to fight them.
