I go in to his mushroom house and everytime i try to attack him it says he blocks it. How do i fix this ?

You have to defeat all the waves of gnomes first, then you'll be able to attack the general.

They'll stop eventually, I didn't count but I think there are at least 6 waves.

Maybe I'll try it out again.

Be patient - you have to defeat 10 waves before you face the General.

Heh, Lobotryas beat me to it.

On easy, it was 5 waves of 1 gnome and 5 waves of 2 gnomes then you can fight the general.
