Oh, that is the impression. I don't see why special skills/abilities should be free. Especially since my method allows for a ton of different effects as well as stat enhancement.
Now you're just confusing me emo

Got pictures?

"Special abilities could include a fourth boost to basic stats, status effects, immunity to certain status effects, even elemental attacks or buff improvements."

So you have your base abilities that everybody can have going all at once, like Ghi, which scale up to Major, like Ghi. Then you have the special abilities which you can buy all of but only have three active at a time.

Soooo, you could have a boost above major as one of your specials and so on.

So they're two types of abilities. One can be equipped, one cannot. And they all have to be earned seperately?

Yep though I would call it "One has to be equipped and one doesn't"

Ah, I think that makes it different to mine.

Mine don't have to be equipped, but there's an added bonus if you do equip them.

...
So basically you can choose to equip them and get the effect... But you don't get the effect if you don't equip them. Hence, a base ability pool that gives bonuses with an add on to get more power...

WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT I JUST SAID! gonk

Okay... Seriously, are you just doing this to ******** with me now?

You get -an- effect if they're not equipped, but a bonus effect on top of it when they are.

I was under the impression that your base abilities and bonuses are completely seperate-

Ah to hell with it. Brb, drawing a pic to try make sense of this.

The base effect is the ability system, the replacement for Ghi. Then you can choose to have special abilities on the side that need to be active/equipped to function.

Your idea is basically the base of my idea with a magnification mechanic which is very limited and thus why my idea of add on actually includes it and more...

- That clarify it?

Yea, I already knew it was a gimped version of my system, Val. neutral
Now I see it is even more gimped than I thought since I want to replace Ghi and you want to limit Ghi to just three slots with a chance to magnify...

3,4,5 doesn't worry me.

But whatever *shrugs* Guess we have different expectations of zOMG! on this one. I don't particularly want players to decide between 3 different mechanics to build their character with, which is what it sounds like you have.

1. I want to replace Ghi with something reliable, an improvement on something we already have. I just add choice and reliability.

2. Then I have an add on system for customization.

It isn't hard and it is easy to figure out by its existence. Why you want to further limit a players options is beyond me. So yes, I have a very different idea of zOMG than nerfing Ghi when it is a great system that could be expanded upon.

Considering that your Legends idea was a precursor to this, I find your statement highly hypocritical. stare

It's not that it's complicated, it's that it's a lot to level. I mean 3 different kinds of power boosts to have to pick between to level?

My Legends system only had -one- thing to spend orbs on. There's no hypocrisy here.

Also, er, how many orbs were you thinking to max out an equippable boost and a Ghi boost?

You and I, the lie of lies.

Since I am not the one dictating stats, I can't make that call.

My best guess would be 50, 100, and then 200 for weak, average, and major. All things considered it isn't that hard of a decision. Hell, I wouldn't consider milling the orbs until Bassken anyway. Orbs are basically like candy at Halloween right now and these bonuses would be something to affect all your rings.

It adds complexity but it is complexity you can avoid. Those who just want to keep it simple can ignore it entirely or just spend on the little bonuses they want.
