Yes, that's partially why Taunt is so worthless xd
Definitely overshadowed by Raged Wish or Diagnose. Anyway, maybe you could find the critical CL disparity that would render our damage to 1 against the animated. Is it like 2.0 or 2.5 and more? Is it the same for the animated when they try to hit us?

Gataka says it's 2.0 C.L.s difference, and yeah, it should be the same for Animated as well.

ahhhh so the rage raises your cl in the attack equation? which is why it makes more damage?

Nah, not as far as we can tell.

Each RR has a different damage value.

Well that's good to know. With the Mr. Fluff episode, it's a good precaution to bring Improbability Sphere along in case you encounter above 2 CL monsters. Have you guys figured out the percentage damage of reflection?
So I just went into zen gardens and fought a 3.2 fluff
I supressed to CL 2.1
My hack ring did 16 damage
Damage = (1 + [ YourCL - TargetCL ] / 2) * (Ring's Damage)
(1+(2.1-3.2)/2)*(This won't matter anyway
(1-1.1)/2
-.1/2
Wat?

Recheck the equation dl, you divide by two before subtracting from the 1.

ie, it should be 1-(1.1/2)

@Myrielle: Animated don't have armour. this has been dev confirmed.

Maybe they should put an absolute value to the equation to avoid negative damage. Also, did you add up the damage from the two bleedings of Hack or was that just the pure damage alone? Did you use rage?

Does the formula account merely for the CL of the animated? Don't each of them have a different defense rating?

I sort of assumed they did. It would make sense that an anchor bug should be tougher that a Sea Spout, while the latter should have higher dodge to reflect its nature. Oh well, I suppose the game is not that advanced yet. Good, so I can kill them equally and just get gold from their carcass.

I thought that too, but apparently it's only C.L. variations which do it.

At the very least, it's been confirmed mathematically that Barnacle Fluffs and Brain Clams take the same damage.

Actually, I just checked
It appears as if, according to the equation, rage does not modify your CL of your targets CL
Proof: rr4 hack, CL 4.3, Sand Fluff CL 6.3, 1 damage...
