Nope. We're allowed to choose our own partners. Granted, we have to wait several hundreds years before we're considered eligible to marry and generally they would prefer if the partner was of the opposite gender and also an elf. But, i've never heard of anyone being forced into a marriage. Nor has there ever been an outright refusal of an untraditional marriage that I recall.
The celebrations are rather large though since such occasions are rare.

But for that time it was really scary!

My father is alive, but he's part of the Spanish Armada, so I haven't seen him since I left to be a pirate. But we're not in bad terms, I just refuse to visit him. It could end on us being forced to be enemies, and I wouldn't like to force my father to hurt me. And I never met any other familiars, only an aunt... but I dont remember her all that much.

Ah. I think I'm afraid of marriage. It's what caused my mother to die, and me to be a pirate. Though I don't regret becoming a pirate. I was raised as one after all.
