Update 2/15
Finally lured my rabbity, panicky ol' self back to the Colosseum. Don't ask me how. (Well, okay, Mahayr had a huge hand in it.) I was really depressed and stuff and none of it is a good excuse--but we do not deal in excuses! We deal in actions, even if they are extremely sheepish!

Speaking of actions, here is my Extremely Sheepish Return To-Do List Of Fish Doom:

--PM serpenteyes now 3+ months late NaNo judgments (if she still wants them?)
--judge CA.ged vs Mahayr already!
--post poem for duel vs serpenteyes
--write poem for duel vs dema
--backread both threads

I will put a strike through those tasks as I complete them, just like the word Fish above. 3nodding

Speaking also of people who should return, I'd like to ask anyone who remembers BlueBus fondly to PM him and tell him why him coming back to the Colosseum would make you, personally, happy. Because now that I have commenced my return, I want to not be the only one who left and then came back. sweatdrop Also I think it would do him some good. As it will do ME good to be here again.

Update 1/18:
Finally put in the updated duels info Mahayr sent me days and days ago. Lured the spike-footed goat-creature into my journal using a tin can as bait, where I will keep him until I can think of a way to bring him back in here without stretching the page horribly. I voted for the last option in the poll, though really several could be true of me. ninja Though not the children one. I am still too irresponsible to make any kind of a good mom! xd

Fighting continued on a token basis,
and the dead did not complain.

Welcome to The Colosseum: Dueling Grounds.

For rules and announcements, go to The Colosseum: Main Thread.

Like the windswept main street of a Wild West town at high noon, like the sandy pits of a Roman circus...or, if you're feeling really vicious, like a two-person poetry slam, this is the place where poetic duelists come to duke it out.

What SHOULD be posted here:

--Enguardes (by judges, signaling a duel to begin)
--Duel poems (by duelists)
--Win/loss judgments (by judges)
--Critiques of duel poems (by judges, if agreed to)

What should NOT be posted here:

--Anything else! scream

(Yes, okay, we have been posting other things such as responses to critiques, news/updates/exasperated demands related to duels...but we should be careful not to be too chatty in here. Duel poems, Enguardes, and judgment posts should still be the bulk of what goes on here. Other things are tolerated but frowned on.)
mad <--- *me frowning on other things*

If you have a question about or problem with your duel, PM LongTimeListener, the judge(s) you've hired, or any other judge if you see one online and are in a rush. If you have a suggestion for the game or a useful link, please bring it to the main thread!

Thank you, and good fortune in battle!

Heat and Cold

July in the air - beware.
Summer waves bring on despair.

Heat is on the night, alright.
Watch the boys - they wait to fight.

Humid panic's race - disgrace.
Puts a scar on pretty face.

Ceiling fans move slow below.
Pray for rain and dream of snow.

December's back, skies turn black.
Winter's cold makes heros hack.

Frozen river hushed, unrushed.
Bodies wait for spring, nonplussed.

Shudder near the fire, perspire.
Like extremes? You are a liar.

Defending against Chiara_Scuro to be judged by Bluebus
~My defending poem~

Church You Say?

Sunday mornings
Dress up nice
For God's sake, kids
Please act right

Mommy teaches
Sunday school
Spouting verses
Like a fool

Oh so nice
To other kids
I won't tell them
What you did

Last tuesday when
You screamed so loud
And kicked my brother
To the ground

Or friday when
You got so drunk
And gave me pills
And other junk

Or maybe they
Would like to see
The pictures that
You take of me

But Mommy teaches
Sunday school
She must be nice
And neat and cool

Now Daddy, he's
A deacon, see
And goes to church
So faithfully

Oh so nice,
And gentle too
I won't tell them
What you do

When mommy is
Too drunk to "play"
You get your jollies
Other ways

Like thursday when
You were so pissed
And smashed my brother
With your fist

Or maybe they
Would like to see
Just what you did
With sis and me

You said: "I'll get
Them tucked in bed"
But you had come
To ******** instead

The list goes on
It's sad but true
You even gave
The dog a screw

But Daddy, he's
A deacon, see
He must be good
And kind and sweet

Sunday mornings,
Dress up nice
For Christ's sake, God
"Act" is right.
((Challenging Mahayr))

Never Taking Flight

The tears trickled down
On the horrid day
When I discovered my life
Was wasting away.

Everything I worked for,
Everything I once sought
Eventually came
To a single thought:

That maybe the world
Is of those places
Where enemies are
The friendly faces

That seem to love you,
And that seem to care
About the issues
Of the world Unfair.

I once knew a place,
Remembered with sighs
Where dreams are founded
On the way to fly
Instead of lying,
Cheating to get by

In a world where dreams
Of the far off flights
Will not come to pass
As our wanted rights.

Here there are no cures
For my broken wings
Because Unfair has
More important things.

I know I'll never
See the city lights
From the sky above
For I'm never taking flight.

((Enjoy! Good luck Mahayr!))
Thank you! You, too, Chiara! Whoever wins, its been great fun for me, and I hope for you as well.
