Hello~!
Welcome to Skies of Tomorrow, an original character story writing contest.~ It's also got a hidden yaoi/boyxboy/boy love/shounen ai/whatever you want to call it theme. Just as a heads up, so you may hit that backspace button if you want now. 8D;;
And when I say original characters, I actually mean.. my originals. Sorry! XD But you may add your own OCs if you'd like in the story! After all, it's your writing that you'll be entering!

I'll take the time to add banners and make this contest thread much more presentable once I get the bare basics down.. XD;;

Here is how we roll~!

General Contest Details and Guidelines:
I reserve the right to extend the contest if I feel I'm not getting enough quality entries! Sorry. > A<; I will try not to!

Contest starts on: March 25th 2008
Contest ends on: July 25th 2008 July 30th, 2008
Entry Fee: NONE! I wouldn't dream of charging an entry fee for a contest that I'm running. As a matter of fact, I'll be giving the entrants 500g for each of their entries. This is not payment, and this is definitely not the prize! It's a little thank-you gift from me to you for your taking the time to join the contest. ^^

- Entries must be private messaged to this account, Luka Aizel. Please include a title for your entry so I can add it to my list of entries! ^^ This is for organization-- if you post your entry in the thread, I can't guarantee that it'll be included when I get around to judging. ; ;
- There is a 3 story limit. So each writer may only enter up to three times.
- There is NO limit to how much you write, but please have a minimum of 900 words. If you're shy a few, that's okay too--! Just as long as it's not a three sentence rushed entry, you see?
- Please! Double check your spelling, paragraphs and grammar! I'm not a huge nazi when it comes to stuff like this, but I also don't want to spend time reading a 100023095757 page story that uses all abbreviations and shorthand writing either. Be kind to me. ; ;
- I will be the only judge-- Which makes it easier for you! Because all you have to do is appeal to me! XD [Bwuahaha;; /SHOT]

My Vow to You:
- I will not redistribute your work, nor will I publish or otherwise profit off the stuff you have written for me in this contest.
- The work written will be for my own amusement only. However, I may share a particularly striking piece with some of my close friends-- But of course, giving full credit where it is due.
- I am an artist, so I may wish to illustrate a scene that you have written. If I do so, I will ask you beforehand and also link credit to where ever I may post the picture.
- The characters listed below as subjects are my own creations. They have their own story that I have already written out and plan to make into a webcomic. Should there be a coincidence between your written piece and what I have down already, I'll inform you of the fact and either ask for permission to continue with the comic as I have written, or I'll change it to something else.
- Should you add your own originals into your entries, I will leave them alone. XD [I have enough characters as it is anyway... /blinks]

- You may share your piece elsewhere, but please give me credit where my characters are concerned. How you judge that is up to you. [By giving credit, I'd appreciate if you linked to my deviantart or my gaia account. ^^: Any way of contacting me is fine. I will return the favor as mentioned above.]
- The piece you have written is for this contest specifically. It is not a rewritten piece of work from past entries that you simply subbed my character's names into.
- That it is actually written by you! XD I don't mind if it's been edited by a few people before hand, as long as the majority of the piece if by you.

So you're wondering... Is this an anything goes contest? Or how does this work?
Well, let me lay it down for you.

Unlike other contests where you have to think of everything from scratch-- whether this is a good or bad thing, I have a few key things that I require for each entrant to find a way to incorporate into their entries.

The era for the story is modern, with a bit of fantasy. But however extreme you want to get with either is entirely up to you.
The characters will be introduced in the next few posts. I think it makes more sense if you read the bios before reading the next paragraph, but either way works. ^^

"We are..."

Cyril and Luka are brothers. The last of the once highly influential and wealthy Aizels. But they carry with them a 'curse', of sorts. No one in their family had lived long enough once afflicting this curse to find out how to stop it from claiming them.

A circle at the base of the neck. That is how one knows that their time was near. Six dots that ring around the circle are the timers. For each dot, it indicates, like a clock, the time the person afflicted has left. Once the sixth point appears, the person will have no longer than another second to live.

There is no telling how long one lives once the circle appears. The longest has been recorded at twelve years. One dot appearing per two years. The quickest death was within six hours, one mark appearing per hour.

The two brothers are vastly different in their approach to dealing with this 'timer'. But both only wish for the best to the other.

Cyril wants to cure Luka for good. Knowing that his own time is running out faster than his elder brother's, the youngest heir spends all his time fervently searching for a cure. Anything that would sustain Luka's life for a bit longer. In doing so, he's giving up his own time. Instead of pursuing his own happiness with what little time he has left, Cyril is always working and shuts himself off from others.

Luka is the opposite. Instead of seeing death as something he and his brother must avoid, the man has already accepted their fate. Instead, he focuses on spending his time in leisure, enjoying every minute of life that he can. He worries constantly for Cyril and attempts to engage the other in fun activities as often as he can. Luka adore his brother and can't imagine living on without him. He'd rather enjoy what time he has left with Cyril than to live on.


Where in their timer does the story start, how long do they live, whether they find a cure or not, what the cure is, and how they ultimately deal with themselves are questions that are all up to you.

I hope.. that's intriguing.. at all. XD;

Also! You may tell the story focusing on anyone.

Don't feel too restricted by all of this! ^^: I'm actually pretty lenient and I want people to have fun with these guys. So you don't have to have a conclusion ending or answer all of the questions. The above is just to give you some more info on the brothers and maybe start some ideas in your mind. :3

Real Name: Cyril Zadzek Aizel
Nationality: Russian
Profession: Scientist [Sort of unemployed...Not that he needs a steady job with the money he already has... ]
Age: 26
Hair: Dark chestnut brown
Eyes: Amber [Changes to black/grey when he's particularly upset or furious.]
Personality: Cold in every form of the word, Cyril lives for only one thing in his life. To find a cure for his brother's 'curse'. It's hard to say whether the guy is selfish or selfless, but he neglects everything around him in order to do the task he had set for himself. Like the other two below, Cyril is rich-- and acts accordingly. His manners are refined and elegant, but the man possesses a a sharp tongue and often speaks in a manner that would offend despite his soft spoken ways. A genius in and of himself, Cyril hates being wrong and abhors not being able to solve a problem that's been presented to him. However, he's very weak when it comes to relationships and displaying emotions openly. While Cyril knows the basics of human interaction, his form of 'knowledge' is extremely right winged. He sees people as pawns for him to maneuver as he likes, to dispose of when he doesn't need them.

The only person he truly cares for without a doubt is his brother. But even around Luka, Cyril is quiet and often impassive, showing the barest hints of a smile to please the elder one whenever it is necessary.

On the topic of Dare, Cyril is uncertain. He had gotten close to the gambler for his own purposes, but since having gotten what he wanted, Cyril still wonders why he tolerates the other man so often intruding into his space and generally stepping on his tail every which way he turned. While Dare considers him a friend, Cyril hadn't quite properly categorized the other yet. But one thing is for sure-- Cyril avoids Dare as much as he can. The other's loud ways often gave him a headache.

Profession: Actor/Singer [Whenever he feels like it...Long story.]
Age: 27
Hair: Dark chestnut brown

Personality: If there was ever a person that was infectiously optimistic and carefree, it would be Luka. The eldest of the Aizel brothers is never seen without a smile, refusing to let anything keep him down and able to find amusement in almost anything, be it sarcastic or otherwise. Luka operates on the principle of 'take s**t as it comes'. He abhors planning ahead and being responsible. But who really needed to, when one has as much money as the Aizels did?

Having a special talent of being able to disguise himself and mimic anyone he pleases, right down to their way of talking and speech, Luka could more often be found parading around as his brother than himself. In fact, he's so good at the art of duplication that his brother once got fed up and drew a cross on Luka's face just so he could differentiate his brother from the other man that Luka was copying.
Needless to say, as the mark is still present, Luka took a liking to it, forcing Cyril to get a similar tattoo.
When Luka isn't copying his brother, however, he still insists on wearing the same type of glasses despite his perfect vision.

While Luka is often kind even to strangers, he can't help but like to tease Dare whenever the other man visits. Luka is well aware of Dare's affections for his brother and often tries to help them along as much as possible... But there's only so much that can be done when your brother is obsessed with something that's not there, and the other one has too much pride to admit his love.

Real Name: Vaska Amery
Nationality: Russian [German descent]
Profession: Professional gambler
Age: 26
Hair: Pearl White
Eyes: Purple [His right, our left], White/Marble [His left, our right] [His eyes naturally lack a pigment, but he's not blind. Though the purple eye is because of the contact he wears and without it, the things he sees out of that eye is really blurry.]
Personality: Extremely restrained and distant to those who don't know him, Dare doesn't really like to try hard in anything. A rich brat, in that quiet detached sense, he's never known how it's like to have to actually work for something.
Though oddly enough, when Dare is around Cyril [Who happens to be his best friend.] the man is unrestrained and quick to temper. He disapproves of almost everything Cyril does, yet cares about the other deeply. If confronted about how deep his feelings ran for his friend, Dare would avoid the question.

Put Dare in a casino and you wouldn't have thought he was the mute, cocky rich kid in the limousine with the stony face and permanent frown. His smiles come most naturally when he's holding cards and his passion for the games of luck would almost be addictive.
Doesn't help that he's quite good at what he loves, either. With a photographic memory and stealthy hand for cheating, Dare has only felt defeat thrice in his entire career. [Ironically, all three of those defeats were suffered at the hands of Cyril-- Whom he now refuses to gamble with.]

On another note, he doesn't like residing his various mansions. Dare spends most of his time moving from casino to casino, gaining VIP access into most of the rooms and high class hotels all around the world.
But on occasion, he would go 'vacation' at Cyril and Luka's place for several months at a time.

Background: Living in an enclosed environment every day has never been good for little boys.
As a child, Dare spent most of his time in his father's mansion, attending classes with private, strictly catholic tutors. Surrounded by servants, some who loved him, some who didn't. His mother was dead. His dad was never home, often traveling away on business or for pleasure. Daddy loved him, oh yes-- but his love for him was like his love for a rare breed of horse or a priceless vase. Something appreciated, but time barely spent with.

Now, I would love to tell you the epic story of how Dare vaulted the walls of his secluded mansion, made it across the river that separated from the mainland, and had an epic adventure in town, filled with women and sex.
But I can't.
For two reasons.
One being that Dare is bisexual, with a more homosexual inclination.
The second being that Dare would never be bothered to exercise something so strenuous as vaulting over a wall. Unless it had to do with sex.
In fact, he had simply dug up blackmail material on his chauffeur and made a steadfast friend [If not somewhat provoking an annoying one-sided love with] his personal bodyguard. Oh, and fired all his tutors as soon as he was legal.

O-Oh. ; ; Um... That's fine~ You can write what you want, as long as at least one of the characters mentioned are included. ^^;

How do you judge this stupid thing?! D<
I judge based on how closely you can portray my characters as I see them in my mind ^^~ That's the hardest part, I know! So I try to make my prizes very high so that it'll be worth your time. ^^;
I also judge by writing style, creativity of ideas, description of scenes, story flow, and less importantly but still necessary, grammar and spelling. But on top of that, I also judge on surprise and twists in the story~ If you can take my boring introduction of the characters and turn them into something spectacular and surprising, chances are you'll win something!

Why are you holding a writing contest? o__O;
Well~ You see. I'm an artist ^^; I also write sometimes when it's necessary, such as for planning out comics or roleplaying. But I'm tired of working with my own characters-- I want to see what other people can do with them!
Plus I love to read and I have no money in real life to buy books/I hate going to the library. >>; /mumbles

Oh.. You're an ARTIST. One of THOSE people. Pfft. So did you draw the art in this thread?
Actually~ yes, I did. ^^~ I take pride in drawing all the reference pictures for my original characters. I really hate it when people take pictures off the internet and just proclaim that 'this is my RP chara'. Because~ What if that was actually the artist's original character? It's really rude and disrespectful.

Are the characters paired up already in your mind?
Nope. ^^ In the comic, they are paired. But in your entry, you may pair them however you like-- I don't mind any sort of pairing at all. In fact, throw in a few of your OCs and pair them up that way, for all I care. XD

What do you like in a story?
Oh ho ho ~~ I like a lot of things in a story. ^^ But mostly, I like romance and well written fluff~ Angst, drama, action~ Messing around with minds and emotions is a big plus with me too. 8D; My characters are actually all tailored to easily fill this parts. ;3 I'm also a sucker for sad endings, but some happy ones fill me with joy too~ Just that...those tend to be a lot rarer. XD
