Yeah, it should be fine. Or you could always just re-rewrite the beginning. xD

Okay, now I have a question for you guys. So I've got my story all figured out character wise and such, but for the life of me I can't decide how old my two main characters should be. They're twin boys taken from home around eight or so, and I plan to have them in the range of 12-15, especially since, it being a fantasy, they don't need to be all that good at what they do. Any tips on how you've done with characters around that age range?

                                                        x3 Thanks for the support.

Do you all already have your ideas?

PMS - Got it. And replied. ^_^ I'll also send you a link to my FictionPress account, if that's alright. It's the only place I have anything hosted at, aside from one thing in my journal.

But yeah, I don't really have anyone to read my stuff, as my mom is more of a non-fiction writer and most of my friends that write live too far away and don't have email, so I can't send it to them or anything.

Thanks for reading, it was really helpful. Like I said in the PM, I'll give you feedback probably tomorrow when I'm not so tired.

Stand Alone: I figured I might give it a go - and as it turned out we just had drinks in the flat and went to the club IN the university, which was so much cheaper and I enjoyed much more. It's nights like this that I appreciate. X3

Cherry: There's just over 3k of it - I could PM it to you some time? Tomorrow? :]

Exodus: We're all mad here! Join the party and like Imo said 'Don't sweat it'. You'll probably find that you really enjoy yourself! =D I don't have my idea yet, haha. So, erm, go with the flow? I usually get my idea quite late, though. :3

PMS: Cool. I guess sometimes you've just got to live a little, huh? =D

I, on the other hand, got to deal with my brother and Spencer being extremely frustrating, since the dog won't stop biting me and when he peed in my room all I got from my brother was complaining about taking him out, and then getting saddled with the dog while I was trying to clean my floor. Wanna switch? xD

Exodus: I've already got my idea, but I'm so ADD with stories that I've usually got several floating around in my head year round. Try reading some of the dares and see if anything pops out at you.

EDIT: And after I got that rant out of my system, The Middle by Jimmy Eat World started on Pandora. Feels like a coincidence. xD

Ain't that the way it goes? XD That's how my Ochrasy series got so long. It started out as an idea for one book and ballooned into an outline for four, but the second book itself grew beyond control and is at 160k right now. @__@

160k 0_0. Are all four of your books going to be that long? I hope I get that much inspiration for mine lol.

Sanity: Yes, that would be wonderful! <3 Can't wait to read it.
Stand Alone Origin: 12-15 is sort of like the "coming of age story" period for some characters isn't it? If I were working with characters of this age range the only thing I would worry about is making them too mature for their age. They can think and behave like adults and all but you can still show them being naive and childlike in some situations and have a nice balance. I haven't worked with fantasy at all so I don't know how that will go. Good luck.

Exodus: This is also my first year and I don't know what I'm going to do. I just have a character and a title. Chances are that I'll end up making it up day by day without a big plan.
Origin - I guess I can forgive you then, since you love me and all. Unfortunately I can't help you. I couldn't write main characters in that age group convincingly to save my life. Good luck, though!
I've been working so much these past few days I hardly have time to keep up with this thread but I love coming home to pages to read through 3nodding

@Origin; I agree with Bobo, at that age I think you definitely have to give your characters lots of chances to make mistakes, learn about who they really are, question themselves, be riddled with self doubt, you know all those amazing young teen feelings =p But it could easily be different in a fantasy world. Because even in our world we have cultures were 'coming of age' time is actually really smooth and peaceful, so if you really wanted to you could ignore all these Western ideas about aging. (And that will be my anthropology splurge for the week sweatdrop )

Katz: I hope they don't all go on that long. XD Book 1 was about 100k. I'm changing some things for the rewrite, so it may end up a bit longer but still not bad. I think what really caught me in Book 2 is how much they travel. Each place needs more description and explanation and characters, and it beefs up the wordcount quite a lot.

But I certainly don't lack things to write about. Settings spawn history. Characters spawn backstories. If I ever get the series finished and don't feel totally tired of it, I'll go back and write some novellas with all those side stories. ninja

Origin: I'd be no help at all in that area. I avoid writing anyone below about 16. The problem is that if you make them convincingly real, they're irritating as hell, but if you make them more mature, people criticize. It's lose-lose unless you're writing a book aimed at children, who won't care either way. XD

Rinnooooooooo! User Image Hello thar! How's it going?

Stand Alone: Oh dear, that sucks pretty hard. D= Actually I'd rather not swap. =P

Apparently though, my mini doggy at home (meaning, the younger of the two XD) has been chronically wetting the bed, so to speak, since I left home. I think she misses me. :/ BUT I'm going to see her this weekend, so hopefully it'll make her happier.

Cherry: I'll send it right over!

In other news: I had a horrible hangover this morning. .__. Now I remember why I don't like drinking.

Have you ever participated in NaNo before? If so, what has your experience been like? If not,
what are you most excited about in your first rushed noveling adventure?

I have participated in NaNo for the past 2 years...unfortunately I never won but I hope to actually finish this year. I don't plan on being as distracted this year.

Lesse here...

Yes, I have done NaNo before, starting in 2004 and attempting all the way up to 2007. The farthest I've gotten was the first time I did it and I reached about 25k. Technically, you could say I reached 50k because I had two versions, both at or around that 25k marker. So no, I've never finished a novel per say, but I have typed 50k words. xD

The main reason for the rest of the years in between then and now is simply because I was too focused on what was going on around me with my life at the time, things such as school, family problems, that kind of thing. Mainly school though, as I was in a lot of high level classes. I also couldn't really decide what I wanted to write; I would usually just jump right in on Nov 1 without any forward planning for either characters, plot or even genre. sweatdrop

I know better now though this year and I look forward to actually completing NaNo for 2009. I've even entered a side story in a contest a few months back and won. xD Now it's just a matter of getting my arse in gear and finishing my planning so I don't get behind.

Rino: Hello!
Are you doing NaNo this year?

I need some help with one of my characters' surnames. He moved to Egypt when he was young and took on a completely different name. So I need help choosing a surname for him. I want it to be hard to pronounce or at least look hard to pronounce so he gets called Mr. [letter] by his students where he teaches.

His first name is Sabriyya, but his nickname is Rhee. Here are some surnames I chose:
Khwarizmi (his current surname)
Kharusi
Baioumi/Bayoumi/Baioumy
Mallakh
Qalqashandi
Bahnasawy
