At least you have a plot? xd Mine has run off again. >_o

Days: Erm, you could try for some kind of.... man-fairy? xd

I have no idea. But then, I'm not sure what my avatar is supposed to be, either.

mimi: You have a month to piece it back together again. ^__^
I'll send you some glue, but it'll take two months to get to you.

PMS: Man-fairy! I should...

Days: Do it! You could have SO much fun. =3

I'm working on my portfolio again. Anybody fancy reading it any time? I need as much feedback as I can get... >_o Then - then I can work on NaNo. User Image

Mimi: Me too! At the moment I don't even have any bunnies in my head, so catching them is all the more awkward. X3 Hopefully soon I'll be able to think of something good. Last year's NaNo is hard to beat.

@PMS: Ah. I see. xD I was wondering how it could scare you...

@Daisy: Yes! Man-fairies FTW. -shot-

Out of curiosity, have any of you ever novelized people that you know?
I've never based a character off of anyone before.
But last night I stayed up until 1am talking to a guy before realizing that his mind and speech patterns suited my vague idea for my main character perfectly.
I feel sort of guilty for basing a character, much less the main one, off of a friend.
So I wondered if you guys have ever done the same thing.

PMS: Ha that would be hard to do. This year would be more challenging for me than last year. I have kids for characters. Compaired to previous projects it was adults and teenagers and I could get away with them being horny. This one I can't so much.

PMS - I'll try? Ha. Oh! Can I read it? I'm working on mine too so I'm always curious to see how these things work... sweatdrop It's kinda frustrating...

Days - Sending trade your way to help with the Halloween costume. ^_^

IMO - Ah....no, I don't think I have. But I know that a few of my favorite authors get a lot of the characters personality traits from people in their life.

Imo: Yeah. Maybe it's just my brain. xd All that stress.

Edit: Also, with regards to the character thing: last year I had my first character based on a friend (because he asked to be in my NaNo). He turned out to be the most annoying-to-write character ever, and I killed him off as soon as I could. That doesn't really relate to your situation, but that's my experience with it. I try to avoid it where possible.

Mimi: No horniness? How will it work?! Haha. My work always ends up being far too sexy, it'd be rather annoying if I didn't write it so easily. >_>

Feigning: You're most welcome to read. You're doing a portfolio?

Mine isn't complete, but I'd like somebody to maybe have a look at my plot progression and characters and stuff... Just to reassure myself that I'm not spending all these hours in vain... Ours is basically supposed to be between 7 and 10 pages (for the first deadline) and between 18 and 20 pages (for the second deadline) of whatever writing we want: prose - short stories, novel openings, flash fiction - poetry etc. so it's pretty free...

I suppose I could PM it to you, if you like?

IMO- yeah, I am. I have Avara, based on my great grandma. Kitty from my friend (its her nickname), Jack, based from my grandpa. Phil, my old youth pastor. Sierra, one of my friends. Tucker, childhood friend. And I believe thats it biggrin 6 out of 26 characters are based from people

PMS: Mostly likely it's going to happen anyways. If my plot goes a bit dark, and one of the characters remains himself.

IMO: Ah my characters come from more than one person. So can't say 'oh my main character is based on my best friend'

PMS - Yeah, go ahead and PM it to me if you like, though right now I'm in the middle of putting together a character profile. sweatdrop

Looks like you have a bit more wiggle room than I do. I'm allowed 3-4 short stories with a max of 30 pages and it has to focus on either fiction or poetry. I'm choosing fiction. ^_^ I guess I've already got a few stories done, but I want to have more than just 3 or 4 so that I can read through them all and be sure I'm submitting my best. I'm putting it together to send to a college up in NY next year, after I get my freshman year out of the way.

Feigning: That's fine. : D

I remember putting my portfolio together to apply for this place! It was horrific. If you've got anything you want reading, or whatever, before you put it in, feel free to ask me. : ) I love reading other people's stuff, and I remember how horribly daunting it was to put something together without feedback. Luckily I had Da Flea to help me. ninja

I used to try to base characters off of friends, back when I wrote tons of horrible fanfiction, but I barely intentionally do it anymore.
The only time it happens now is when I'm consciously adapting a character of that friend into one of my stories.
I try to keep something of the person in them, but generally they end up becoming largely a completely separate character.
I find that as soon as I start actually writing the character, he/she swerves off somewhere I hadn't intended.
I don't see any reason why you can't use your friend as a starting point for your character, though.
And I would think using personality/character traits from people you know would be largely unconscious.
I'm sure I do it more than I think I do. xD

I'm kind of super excited to actually be made to write the story I plan to work on.
I wrote a short story for the main character a year and a half ago, but this was the story I'd always intended to write for her.
It's taken so long to pin down the basic plot due to the fact that the large tragedy that it centers around actually happened in my community, and I've been trying to find a way to recreate it without belittling the situation.
Ahh! This thread moves too fast! I've lost track of everything... Ack.

Hello to everyone who remembered me! I remembered all of you, too. It's nice that I wasn't forgotten!

Umm. I have a midterm tomorrow, so I can't really say much more than that. I want to hang out, though... Sad.

Oh, mind if I ask for some advice? I started rewriting my third book roughly two or three weeks ago. I wrote most of the original first draft in about two weeks, and I wanted to spend some more time on it and draw out everything in more detail. I don't want to stop working on it for a month and pick it up again for NaNo. I do, however, also want to rewrite the fourth book.

When I rewrite books, I completely revisit the material and reuse essentially nothing, though I spare the original glances.

What should I do for NaNo? I don't want to set these aside for a whole month to work on something else; I want these books done so I can self-publish my compilation book (books one through four) at long last. But I don't know how to follow the rules while doing this.

Help?

Just shout Moya! at me if I vanish again. I'll do ctrl-f for Moya at least, even if I miss a ton of pages.

Ahhh, a midterm tomorrow that requires me to memorize citations for its essays! I really have to go study. Ack.

Have a wonderful day!
Moya
