Hello everyone, and welcome to my poetry and short story contest. I'm not one for great introductions, so lets get to the point. The rules are very simple:

FOR THE SHORT STORIES! -

I personally have always had a fascination with ancient history, hence it being a "knightly" poetry/short story contest, and my name being knight_of_chivalry. So, this time the short story theme is going to be related to this.

I want you to write me a story about a modern day knight. It doesn't necessarily have to be about someone who has been knighted and has "Sir" before their name, any interpretation of the prompt is acceptable. It's a concept I recently thought of writing my own short stories, and I would like to see how you guys react to this prompt. Prizes are the same as the previous contest.

The deadline for short story entries is July 20th, 2008.

Please Note that the Poetry Section of the Contest has been closed, thank you.

PRIZES

1st place will still get 7500 gold, but i added
2nd place which will be at 2000 gold
and 3rd which will get a prize of 1000 gold.

which totals 10.5k in prizes.

And this will be for both short stories and poetry. Enjoy, and happy writing

P.S. Stories and Poems must be in either english or french, i will not accept any other language.

P.P.S. The phrase in the title, "to seek, to strive, to find, and not to yield" is from Lord Alfred Tennyson's poem Ulysses. It basically means to keep going forward, keep searching for and reaching your goals, and to never give up. I thought it would be a fitting phrase for the contest I am running, besides the fact that I enjoy his work.

In order to further protect against plagarism, I would like you to know that if you have posted your piece on any other websites, such as myspace, facebook, freeweb, etc. prior to posting it within this thread, I will be trying to get into touch with the author, aka (hopefully) you from now on.

I will try to contact you (obviously) via some sort of online communication, such as e-mail, pm, comment, etc. I will simply send you a message saying "Hi, this is knight_of_chivalry. If you could confirm that you are indeed (your name here) from gaia, I would appreciate it, thank you". After this, I will make no further attempt to contact you outside of gaia.

For reference, if I have to add you in order to make a message/comment etc. My name is Edward (or just Ed), msn: russian_man17@hotmail.com - screen name: crazED/Edergizer/caffiene-fuelED/ something with Ed in it. I will be using one of these names to contact you - if anyone under any other name attempts to contact you saying that they are knight_of_chivalry, then they are lying. If someone contacts you using this info, you can pm this account to make sure that it was actually me not someone else claiming to be me on the other end. That way, there is no chance of someone trying to steal my own identity.

Not that I think that any of you would do so, but that recent incident where I caught someone on the site stealing poems (thankfully not in this contest) has convinced me that I should be doing more to protect you all against plagarism. While that person was a noob and made his theft obvious, it occured to me exactly how easy it would be to plagarize a poem or story. Many poems are on myspaces, etc and only on 1 site, which would make it easy for someone to say "yes, I am (enter name here) and I wrote this".

In reality, it only makes sense. If you are worried about me finding out your name, etc (for perfectly viable personal security reasons - after all, you don't know who I am) either take your piece from the site or take your name from it. In a couple cases so far I have already figured out a couple of your names (to which I will keep to myself) because your pieces were on a different site.

So, this is just to let you guys know. If you have any problems with this then you can let me know and we can work something out, but if a story/poem is listed under the name "John Doe", and the site dates back before the date of your post, I will need proof that you are indeed John Doe and not stealing John Doe's poem/story.

any questions about anything, feel free to pm me razz

Also, I have composed a list of people caught in various offences, such as scamming, bribery, etc. known as "Gaians Most Wanted". This will hopefully help us avoid becoming fooled by the various people who try to cheat the rest of us within the writing community, and perhaps all of gaia. If you have anyone to add to this list or any info you can give me (like if one of the criminals changed their name and to what, what their mules are, etc), please let me know. Thank you.

Gaians Most Wanted

GOOD LUCK razz razz razz

New Blood

Liddi (Lid-ee) felt the tears flowing from her eyes, down her nose, and fall onto the helpless body of Greg Shepard that lay next to her. She moved his hair softly from his face and gently closed his eyes with the tips of her fingers. “My sweet, I am sorry. I deserve no more then to rot in the pits of hell.” she said to her love that was now dead. She lightly kissed his forehead with her full, soft lips, letting her long, jet black hair fall, and cover her face.

She removed his jacket form his limp torso, to cover her naked body and stood unsteadily. She took hold of his hand and pulled swiftly to move him. She dragged him to a vacant lot and started to dig. She buried Greg in silence accept for her sniffles and sobs that came uncontrollably. When she finished she looked at her dirt covered hands and thought about what she had done. “I just...murdered...” she couldn’t even finish her sentence because of the guilt she felt.

Liddi began to walk home only to find the realization that she couldn’t go home. So she started walking in the opposite direction. She came across a little park where there was a sandbox, sum rusty playground equipment, and a swing set. She sat down on one of the swings to think.

She sat for hours, she thought about turning herself in, but dismissed the thought. How was she going to explain the bites and claw marks on Greg’s body without exposing her kind? She thought about telling her parents, but knew they wouldn’t understand. It became very clear to her that her only option was to run away.

So she ran. Liddi ran all night and when the sun finally rose she ran some more. She didn’t care how tired she got. All she was thinking about was protecting her kind.

The sun was high in the sky and heat flowed down from it. Liddi followed a road to her unknown destination that she would soon find. She had no idea where she was. All she had on still was Greg’s jacket and she felt very uncomfortable in it. Her upper body was blazing but her lower body was exposed to the breeze. But she didn’t dare take it off. She was melting, not stupid.

After a while of trying to figure out where she had brought herself she tried to flag down a car. This was surprisingly easy for her. It seems that wearing a coat that exposes her radiant legs has its advantages.

A red truck pulled up with an average looking man sitting in the driver’s seat. He leaned over and rolled down the window. “You need a ride?” he asked.

Liddi walked up to his window but was careful not to get to close. He might be a weirdo. “No, I was just wondering...where am I?” It seemed like a dumb question and by the look on his face it was.

He half laughed his answer, “Oh, your in Maryland, the suburbs to be exact.”

“Oh...thanks.” Liddi answered. She couldn’t think of anything else to say.

“No problem! Glad to help. Well...good luck.” Then he drove off. Liddi wasn’t sure what he meant by that last comment but she was pretty sure he either thought she was home less, which she was, or that she was mentally challenged, which she wasn’t sure about herself.

Well, she did know where she was now. She was in Maryland where she would do everything in her power to block out what happened and pretend that her past didn’t exist.

Rage
It had been weeks before anyone had bothered to open the door, and when the pale hand turned the golden doorknob, and let out a waft of putrid air from the previously golden room, it was shut and locked after two or three heaving retches. The lanky figure wiped it's mouth with a masculine hand, and straightened its back. The image that had just registered into his brain was forever burned into his retinas, and tears formed a sheen across brown irises.

He knew it was his fault, that it had happened, he knew that his fury would drive him to do something like that. Yet, he hadn't touched a hair on the child's head, he hadn't harmed her physically, at least, directly. When he had shut the door on her screaming, locked the frail girl into the Golden Room, inside, he knew, even back then, that he would come to regret his actions.

The old manor was completely deserted, but for two souled creatures, and still, one soul was departed. The male was sitting on a large, paisley covered chesterfield sofa, elbows on knees, his bowed head resting on his hands. The only sounds in the room came from him, little whimpering sobs accompanied by droplets of salinated water hitting the floor.

He was crying, partly for her, and partly of split dispair. He would be alone from now on, and, he would have to clean the room. It didn't matter to him that the staff would wonder about the sunny girl, whose smile was contageous, and lightened up any room in which she entered. The whole manor had cherished her, not only the human beings, but the animals, and the old house itself. It creaked soothingly when she was sick, and she could interpret any sound as a story, or a conversation directed towards her.

Yet, now, he would have to dissasemble the whole of the Golden Room, burn and bleach out every trace of her. Emotional, physical, and psycological, not to mention any electronical trace of her existence.

Even now, years later, the young man, refuses to enter the room, where the staff knew what happened, and dare not speak of it, in fear of the cruel man, a man now gaunt and withdrawn far beyond his age. The man refuses to enter the room, sulking, still, and stealing tearing glances at a picture kept on a chain around his neck, glances that tore his heart.
