Here they are!
With the holidays coming around, I thought I would spread the love and hold a poetry contest!
1. Introduction & Rules
2. Prizes
3. Entries
Please keep in mind I'm not very good at poetry, but I would do my best with the judging. My evaluations basically have 3 parts:
If I did not pick your entry, please don't take it as a sign that your poem is bad. Two of the three things I'm evaluating for are subjective.
I should also mention, I find it difficult to interpret free verse poetry that has no rhyme (unless it uses obvious techniques, like meaningful enjambment). I also tend to not prefer rhyming that seems forced. I like lines that demonstrate clear communication, such that (almost) anyone could understand them; if I have to look up facts to get the gist of your poem, I might not view it highly. Length and subject don't matter. English. Up to two entries are allowed per person. Please post entries in this thread, or post somewhere else on gaia and link it.
(This goes without saying, but the poem should not turn up in a google search.)
yum_puddi Most of all, have fun! It's the holidays!
Deadline.

Here they are!
Thank You For Participating!
First of all, I loved reading all your entries. It was a lot of fun for me, and hopefully it was a lot of fun for you too.
Prizes
I'm increasing the prizes for this contest! whee I was planning to do this since a long time ago, but I didn't like the idea of people entering on mule accounts just to get more gold, so I didn't mention the new prizes until now.
gaia_crown Best Overall: 6bil 12bil
yum_bacon Best Enjambment: 4bil 8bil
yum_tamago Best Rhymed & Metered: 4bil 8bil
gaia_star Most Inspiring: 4bil 8bil
yum_strawberry Most Enticing: 4bil 8bil
gaia_diamond Most Intricate: 4bil 8bil
gaia_spoons Clearest Communication: 4bil 8bil
For everyone who entered and didn't win a title, I'm giving out 1bil each.
Total prizes for this contest comes to 90bil.
Math:
overall title (12bil) + other titles (8bil x 6) + ( number of participants (36) - number of title winners (6 b/c someone won two titles) ) x 1bil =
12bil + (8bil x 6) + ((36 - 6) x 1bil) =
12bil + 48bil + 30bil = 90bil
Scoring System
The scores are 8-digit numbers, with each digit/column representing the score for a specific category. The categories, in order from left to right, are: overall, enjambment, rhymed & metered, inspiring, enticing, intricate, clear communication, and grammar etc.. So if your score was 12345678, overall your score was 1, for enjambment you got 2, and so on. Although there isn't a title for grammar, I included it as a category because I felt it should be considered as well.
The highest score is a 9, and the lowest score is supposed to be 0, but there ended up being one -1. emotion_facepalm
My patience/enthusiasm for judging had ups and downs, so some days I might have been more lenient than on other days. Take your score with a grain of salt, and consider every score to be that number +/- 1. I also noticed that toward the beginning, I got really excited when there was any sign of enjambment or inspiration, so I might have skewed the numbers a little bit. I acknowledge that I rated harshly on grammar. twisted
If you want to know the score for your poems, just tell me in the thread, and I could PM it to you. If you ask, I could include constructive feedback. Then, if you feel like it, you could totally post your score in the thread - you know, if you wanted to. emotion_kirakira
Again, the scores are based on my values and tastes, so if you didn't get a good score, it might just be that our tastes are incompatible. 3nodding
Title Rankings
I reread and reread and reread.
Title Winners are bolded!
All Scores
This is not a ranking list! I simply put everything in numerical order going from left to right. Just because one entry is above/below another doesn't mean it's better or worse.
