Announcements

10/8: This is an okay turn out. everyone will place but who will get first place . . . hm? Well find out soon enough, I'll have the judging done by the weekend.

10/7: Please, please, please, get your stories into me by midnight tonight! I don't want to extend this contest again! But I will if I have too . . .

9/30: I guess I'll extend this contest until next Tusday. Oct. 7 Good luck!

9/11: I've changed the minimal word requiremnts for the chapter stories of both the main contest and the bonus contest from 5,000 to 3,000. Better, huh? I decided after I finished my stupidly long story (that was supposed to be a one-shot) that most of my chapters aren't much longer than 3,000 and some less than that and I couldn't ask others to do what I can't so, more will always be better but if you can't then don't worry, do your best. And that was the longest run-on sentence I've writen in a while. Good Luck!

9/1: RE-OPEN!! Yay! You know, I said the last contest was supposed to be a challenge, but this one will actually be more of one. Anyway, to the two people I promised a critique too, you will get it soon. I've been really busy and barley keeping up with this contest (as you can see), so I'll try to get those done today or in a few days . . . before Friday!

Rules Of The Thread

* Do Not PLAGIARIZE!!! Enough said.
* Follow Gaia ToS. Keep the story PG-13 okay?
* Be respectful! Do not flame other peoples work or their comments.
* Bumping and chatting is always welcome!
* No spamming! Please, just don’t.
* Post your entry here in the thread and send me a PM with the page number or else you may get over looked.
* I want this to be a long story. Minimal 5,000 words. Maximum 20,000 words. If it’s longer let me know in advance. If it doesn’t fit on Gaia then use http://www.fictionpress.com/ and post the link in the thread. Also, for chapters they should be at least 3,000 words and no more then 10,000 words.
* Only one entry per person please.
* Old work is acceptable.
* No more than 20 entrants.
* Fill out my little form please under the Theme.
* This isn’t a rule but a heads up. If you enter and submit a story you can get one free banner/wallpaper for my personalized graphics shop. You don’t have to place or have a high score, just last until judging is over.
* I have the right to add more rules at any given time.

Do’s and Don’t’s

* I love romance, put some in your story and I’ll like it more.
* I also love conflict and violence
* Horror and gore
* Reality, even in fantasy, should be there.
* Writers who write like writers. Good grammar and spell checkers are your friend.
* I prefer there to be an extra space between your paragraphs.
* Random is good. But when things are out of place it becomes bad. So, have lots of plot twist but make them actually go with the plot.
* Diverse your characters. This goes for both human race and species (if a fantasy).
* I do love fantasy.
* I’ve been on a werewolf high lately . . . just saying . . .
* I love animals

Do’s and Don’t’s

* Interspecies relations. Ew. Unless your talking a demon/fairy/fallen/[insert humanoid fantasy creature here] kid hooking up with a human, then that’s fine. What’s not fine is a regular dog and a human making out. Gross.
* Don't let your character become a cliche or a Mary Sure or a Gary Stu.
* No walls of text please. Write like a writer and read a book while you’re at it.
* No fanfics/bandfics please.

Judging

I am the one and only, again. I will just give you a little layout of what I will be judging you on.

Direction - Did you follow my requirements and rules?

Dialogue - Is there a lot? Does it fit the characters personality? Dose it help tell the story?

Plot – Does it make sense? Does it capture the reader? Are there plot twist?

Spelling & Grammar – Nobodies perfect but is it comprehensible? Does it look like you went back and fixed something?

Enjoyment – How much I liked the story overall. This is what gives you the most points, because regardless of how well you write if I have to force myself to read it (to the point of were I have to mute my TV and turn my MP3 off to concentrate. It’s happened before) then you will not receive a high grade. You can check the past winners to get an idea of what I like or run your idea by me before you get started. That is fine.

Descriptions – Did you paint a picture in my head?

Creativity – Make me go, “huh”? Then make the story make since again, it’s fun and perfectly okay to be unique/weird!

Bonus – You will get bonus points by putting my discreet hints (the hints are in my rules and you may notice some things if you pay attention to my thread conversations) in your stories. You’ll also get bonus points for exceptional writing and if you happen to excel at one of the things I’m grading you on then you get a bonus point. To be fair I will limit the bonus points to two per person.
For everything you add (for bonus points) your grade goes up one letter. So, you have the chance to raise your grade two letters.

Since I like letter grades everyone will receive a letter between A+ and D- because I feel that no one deserves an F.

The bonus contest will out last the main contest by three months. This contest will not be moved or changed in any way throughout the three months. The only thing I may do to change this contest is I may give it its own thread. So, now that’s out of the way, let me tell you what you will be writing.

This is a free write too, but, this isn’t a one-shot/short story contest. This is a LOOONNNGGG Story contest. Think novel length. I would like to think of this as good practice for anyone who wants to write a novel.

& You must follow the thread rules.
& You must have at least ten chapters in your story, it can be more.
& Each chapter must have at least 3,000 words and not over 10,000. Well, it can be but you should let me know before hand.
& Your story must end. No cliffhangers. No sequels please. Just end. (I make this rule because I have a issue with ending my own stories)
& No more then ten entries please. It’s going to be like reading ten books, so understand that more would complicate things. I can however make a maybe list, which will be moved to the main list if someone drops out or doesn’t turn in a story. And to make sure the maybe list doesn’t go to waste I will send everyone a critique and chose an honorable mention from that list if it still exist by the end of the contest.
& You will be graded the same way as I’m grading the main contest, so please refer to the main contest for grading info bonus points and all.

Due Date: November 25, 2008
Note: I hope no one is afraid of the due date because I most likely WILL extend it until Febuary(unless by some merical I get ten+ stories by the original due date), so yeah, get started!!

A spot for my complaints, AKA the stories I keep procrastinating on . . . Don't judge me . . .

It Was Like That When I Found It AKA That long a** story I've been working on since my first contest. It's Done . . . I just need to edit it. As you can see I have the first half posted on my fictionpress account, I need the rest up. DONE!!

Holloween Thing, it's for a contest. I'm still trying to decide what to write about . . . hopefully I'll have something after I finish editing the above.
