Introduction
This thread houses two separate contests: one for poetry and one for prose. Both are on the same theme but will, naturally, have different requirements. Also, as there seems to be some confusion on the matter, I include short stories in the Prose category. The theme is Chaotic Good, as stated in the title. More can be read about the theme in the next post. I will allow up to 20 people to enter each contest--this will be decided on a first-come first-serve basis. More on this in the third post. The prizes for each contest will be as follows:

Prose

1st----10k
2nd---5k
3rd----2.5k
Honorable Mention--500g(up to five will be awarded)

Poetry

1st----8k
2nd----4k
3rd----2k
Honorable Mention--400g(up to five will be awarded)

Theme

Meaning of Chaotic Good

The alignment as described on Wikipedia: Chaotic Good is known as the "Beatific" or "Rebel" alignment. A chaotic good character favors change for the greater good, disdains bureaucratic organizations that get in the way of social improvement, and places a high value on personal freedom.

Individually
Good implies altruism, respect for life, and a concern for the dignity of sentient beings. Good characters make personal sacrifices to help others.

Chaos implies freedom, adaptability, and flexibility. On the downside, chaos can include recklessness, resentment toward legitimate authority, arbitrary actions, and irresponsibility. Those who promote chaotic behavior say that only unfettered personal freedom allows people to express themselves fully and lets society benefit from the potential that its individuals have within them.

Interpretation of Theme
While the theme must be addressed in all submissions, it can be represented in a variety of ways. Writers are encouraged to find new, interesting angles based on the theme. Examples of acceptable uses of the theme include: a characteristic of the narrator or protagonist, a characteristic of the antagonist, its nature, its effects, and its causes. This is by no means a complete list. If you find yourself questioning whether or not your piece pertains to the theme, the answer is probably no.

Title: The ballad of Anne, Mary, and Cleopatra
Lines:26
(entry here)

We wished only to help, and that was all
Save our people, the skin on our backs
How should we have known we would fall?
We had a plan, it is life we now lack

A daring temptress
Six fingers on one hand
She tested his highness
Her blood now soaks the land

Powdered wigs, riches galore
Cake instead of bread
Her people knew not that she was a hoar
Her two children now are dead

She was always sought against
Many languages rolled off her tongue
When Rome threatend egypt, population dense
She killed her self still young

These women had a past
But because of chaotic choices
Even for the good of their people vast
No one heard there voices

As swords of good clashed
Lives of difrent flashed
And
Then
Were
Gone......

Well, thank you, Yadda! As a writer myself I try to choose themes that I feel would be fun to write about.

Title: For the Good of Arrogance
Words: 521

Everlasting Spring. The people bask in its wonders. With flowers and sunshine engulfing every corner of the wondrous world. Food is plentiful. Love is abundant. The people are happy. But the government is corrupt. While eyes are blinded by unbelievable bliss, the system is creating the apocalypse. Underground machines are built. Wars are fought. Destruction and chaos are their heroes. But no one knows of the evil hidden. They are fed untruths about life. They believe in spring. They believe in peace.

One woman knows. She is unmasked to the lies. With a rage inside her building up. She knows a catalyst is needed but knows no ideas. As the sun outside sparkles and the fluffy clouds pass by she walks down a path of shadows. By avoiding the peaceful weather she is never confused. She knows the truth. When she reaches the end of the shaded rode a swamp is revealed.

Through black and green, the mist I see, arise, arise, the beast of wreath. The water then boiled. A figure rose from the green slime and algae. Change, I need change. She declared. The figure replied. Spring blinds the people’s eyes. The happiness is false. So what can awaken them? The figure then melted back into the unsanitary abyss. The question was answered yet left unanswered. Though the false spring gave light to an idea. Winter they called it. The end of the world. When coldness is all your eyes view, the sun is no longer in picture. We need Winter. We need the end of the world. The end of the lies.

Now the answer was clear to her. The solution still blurred. To get rid of the sun was a tedious task. Snow. Snow was the answer. But where does snow live? The figure of the swamp was no longer of use. Then a second light went off in her mind. A monster lives in the only bare spot in the world. No flowers, no sun. His name is Jack Frost. He’s the demon of cold. To get there. She knows no path. There is no path. One must wander. Without hope. Without peace.

Several years flew by, several suns had set. The government began to awaken. It began to simmer. She was now at the door of Frost, Jack. You do not knock on this door. It opens when it must.
You need? Came a voice. I do. Was her reply. Without seeing his face she could sense a smile. What wish? He asked. Snow, Winter. Her voice hesitated to say. And end the happiness of the world? He asked. And end the daze of the world. Only the people can stop the destruction. Only together. Her nobility was stunning. Very Well. He said, and with that the darkest clouds anyone’s ever seen moved in.

The people in panic. The system confused. The clouds began to sing. Sing snow. Sing Winter. She was never hailed as a hero but as a witch. But she knew peace. And without realizing it, so did the people.

heart Okay, so it's not the happiest story and I feel like it may be right on the edge of prose and short story. It has meaning and I believe it relates to Chaotic Good. heart

I would LOVE to read some of your writing! I cant make a prose right now however, so you can take my name off the list...=[ I may make one later though, it just depends. Are you going to make any other contests?

I'm going to be short on cash after funding just this one, so no. If I'm still active on gaia in August then maybe . . . but I start college in August so I'll get busy fast. If I did another now then I would have to make my sister fund it...which seems a little unfair.

As for me? I have a fiction press account, a fanfiction.net account, and shonen-ai contest piece readily available.
